I put one on my truck mainly because I have a group of Grandkids that are at the height of my tailgate. And, they always want to help Papa do things. I didn't want to bonk one on the head. I can pop the latch and let them watch it come down.

alright what gives?! mine goes down WAY faster!!!! it doesn't slam, but your setup is how i expected it to be, and when i installed mine, it was incredibly faster...wtf!?
My tailgate also has the step, but still comes down faster than I expected. It doesn't bang at the bottom, & is 100% better that it was. When the tailgate comes down my shock makes a strange sucking sound, do they all do that, or do I have a problem.

Wow, yours took barely 2 seconds, mine took a little over 5.
My brand is Stabilus EZ-Down.
yea, different brand. thought yours was the same brand as mine (DeeZee). guess the shock is different. kinda got used to mine, at times i wouldn't want it to be too slow, but yours does look like it works better. mine like i said though at least doesn't slam, it just is faster. so for now i'm happy enough with it.
Has anyone compared the Dee Zee to the Stabilus, side by side? I can get the Stabilus at my local O'Reilly for $19.99. The cheapest I've found the Dee Zee is $24 but I have to have it shipped. It's only $4 but if they are the same I'd like the convenience of just going down the street should I ever have an issue.

What part number are you getting? I just checked Oreilly's website and the one I found is $35.99.
