So how familiar is anyone with the blue ridge drive and area. We are going to come in that way with the camper and stay there a few days to site see. I know there are tunnels the camper can't fit through though. We are coming in from West Virginia towards Tennessee first. Gonna camp at the KOA near Bristol, TN and then come through from there.
Bristol is nice. Abington is right next door and it has a strong history. I ride the Blue Ridge Parkway several times a year on the motorcycle, but most of the roads I explore your rig wont fit on. Gatlinburg would be more of a tourist area to visit, if you've never been. As for the winters here in central Carolina, you ain't seen funny till the state shuts down for an inch of snow. I know it sounds crazy, but the roads cover easily and when the do they freeze. Ice is our problem. but let's keep warm thoughts. Welcome to N.C. and the N.C. Chapter. Come and see our state and once you are settled, give us a shout and we will see about trying to find some BBQ in your area.

We got back home from a four day stay in Gatlinburg Tn. Other than my truck possibly being totaled out, we had a nice stay. I haven't been through a tunnel yet that a tractor trailer couldn't go through. Well not on the interstate anyways.

An inch shutting parts of the state down is the truth. Our first winter here, after moving from Missouri we found that out. I'm a craigslist junkie, and on a run for a turntable I had to have, we had about an inch of snow on the ground, and it was sleeting lightly. On the way home my son and I hit every fast food place you could think of, and they were all closed, and the grocery store that was about a mile from the house was closing early, because of an inch of snow.
But it sure beats the winter weather that we were used to getting. I literally haven't put on a winter coat since we moved to NC, four years ago this coming up November.

You are right, there are a few tunnels you won't fit through, and a couple of roads, even state highways, that will make driving that rig less than fun. The Blue ridge parkway is beautiful, especially so during the fall, but even now, it would be a nice drive, but I wouldn't take the camper down it.
Even the main roads, though can be breath taking. You are coming in a bit further north than the areas I am familiar with.
That's exactly why we are camping outside the area first, to drive through without the camper and map a route. I've had my setup in the Black Hills, Yellowstone, and the Grand Tetons, so I can deal with the mountain roads and switchbacks just fine. But not when I don't know the area well.
No one is denying your driving ability. But as a motorcyclist, meeting up with a 30ft. camper in your lane in a switchback, turns into a life or death situation.
Now if you are setting up camp and enjoying the mountains for all they have to offer. There is a campground called Bear's Den Campground I use a lot. It is close to Little Switzerland. Beautiful area. What all kind of interest do you have and may be interested in and we might could be more helpful with something you want to see. We will help out if we can.
