Not sure if you are brand specific on something you want for a car but I opened up CL this morning and this was at the top of the page. A little over 3k but I bet 3k cash would get it. Looks like a really good car from the pics.
Good morning guys!
Yes there are some good cars out there for not a lot of money but finding them is the trick. If you were to buy a car through a friend that knows the car, you stand a lot better chance of getting something decent. Many times, however, you end up with something that's been a problem for someone else. Buying a turd for me is one thing, I can deal with that - but sending my loved ones down the road in a question-mark car is another matter.. I would have to take the car as my own for some period of time to first learn where all the bodies are buried..
Good morning Randy!
I think you are worrying too much. There are tons of decent cars for 3k bucks that I would hop in and drive cross country and not worry about after checking over the basics. Buying a car through a friend can be really bad sometimes. You buy that car that is suppose to be good and it drops a transmission couple days later. That can really strain a friendship.
And the freaking Transit won't start. Karri is using my truck to get to a doctor, and I hitched a ride to town with my mother-in-law. Beyond pissed off at the moment...
Called Ford roadside assistance, they're getting back to me when they find the closest dealer qualified to work on it.
That sucks Tom! Hope they take good care of you. It also just proves right there that even though you spend a lot of money on a car it doesn't make it any more dependable then a 3k dollar car.

Cranks fine, but no start. Fired once or twice when I first tried, but after that nothing at all. Felt like a fuel issue to me. Van has just over 1/4 tank and was parked on a slight incline. My WAG is an issue with the fuel sending unit of some flavor.
Ya Troy - I may be a worry wart, but my wife appreciates that I've made every effort to be sure she has had a safe and reliable car for 40 years now.. I've only had to rescue her 3x in all those years. Once for a flat tire, once because she was in a wreck and once because she couldn't drive her Focus through 4' snow drifts a couple years ago..
I hear Randy. I may not have been taking care of my wife for 40 years like you but she appreciates everything I have done to make sure her cars never break down and leave her stranded either whether it was the 1000 dollar cars we drove when we first were together or what we drive now. Unfortunately even our best vehicles can still let us down when you least expect it. This past weekend my best vehicle (my dually) let me down but I still got us home when a front caliper decided to seize up and not release. No way to predict that break down. We had been on the road for almost 70 miles when it happened. Just have to deal with the situation and get it resolved.
