Replaced the spark plugs in the Kia today. A little surprised that the plugs looked to be original, but the gaps were all still in spec. Didn't think that was possible after 107,000 miles?
Also, while poking around I found this written on the side of the engine. Think I read awhile ago that junk yards use orange marker to write on their parts? I can't find any signs that the engine has been replaced, such as wrench marks on the mounting bolts, but the writing seems odd to me.
Randy, doesn't that jeep have a center axle disconnect?
The transfer case does disconnect the front axle, but the front differential is still moving as well as the driveshaft.. I think it would give a little better economy and less vibration on the road in 2WD if I had hubs that opened up..
Tom - ever heard of JDM?
I wonder if they put the car's VIN anywhere on the engine?

Yep, I'd agree. I believe Ford is the only manufacturer to lock out the axleshafts on their 4WD trucks.

Japanese Domestic Market? That's all I got...this car was made in Korea though.

Dunno, but a quick scan of the owner's guide shows where I can find the engine number. Went out there with a flashlight and couldn't see it, will have to put it on ramps and crawl underneath tomorrow. Wouldn't really bother me if it was a replacement engine...it may explain why the plugs looked so good.
It was a tad cool, and somewhat gusty, but in all a nice day here in Brainerd.
I got my apple trees staked, and then set about subsoiling some channels in my road/trails to hopefully resolve some water retention issues and also to pull out more roots so my driveway won't have as many lumps.
