Tom, 3k won't get you much unfortunately.. Well, it may buy you a clunker, but how reliable is it? You may want to check with the dealer you just bought the bus from to see if they have something they took on trade that they are going to send to the auction..
Yep, 3K buys a steaming pile these days. When I started my search for what became the f350, I wanted to stick to $5K and found out that was asking too much for something with dual air bags and power windows.
At the same time, my neighbor got lucky and got a Saab with 125K for $1200 that needed, get this, an alternator. The old people they bought it from must've been given a quote for something major and the shop was trying to scam them out of the car. Instead they sold it on CL to my neighbors who's brother is a mechanic. $150 later they've got a really nice old lady driven car.
I dunno, there are things out there. I paid $1,000 for my '97 Lincoln, and that was a great car. Had to be towed once for a brake line, but otherwise it was 30,000 miles of relative reliability. I use the term "relative" because I was frequently working on it, but I was always good at catching things before they got bad.
Six months from now we should be well on our way to paying things off, but before that I *really* don't want a third car payment. Perhaps I should just wait and pile miles on the bus while gas is cheap.

You just have to look around. There are plenty of deals to be had for under 3k.
Good morning guys!
Yes there are some good cars out there for not a lot of money but finding them is the trick. If you were to buy a car through a friend that knows the car, you stand a lot better chance of getting something decent. Many times, however, you end up with something that's been a problem for someone else. Buying a turd for me is one thing, I can deal with that - but sending my loved ones down the road in a question-mark car is another matter.. I would have to take the car as my own for some period of time to first learn where all the bodies are buried..
And the freaking Transit won't start. Karri is using my truck to get to a doctor, and I hitched a ride to town with my mother-in-law. Beyond pissed off at the moment...
Called Ford roadside assistance, they're getting back to me when they find the closest dealer qualified to work on it.
