I only run synthetic, but the 5w40 for summer? I know it's cold out now - this should be clearing up any week...

Sweet deal on the Mobil. I'm gonna have to go hunt some down.

Fuel filter is on the list too, but the sticker on the windshield says I'm 2K over the mileage and I'm guessing by the color of my oil that I'm not quite at 5K on this change; I'm changing it because I don't know where it is exactly. Did they put 3K interval, 5K, factory's 7.5K? I don't know.

I added a couple pics to my what did I buy thread up in diesels. Since I'm still in my "anti-spammer" probation period I can't attach anything and I'm migrating away from using photobucket.

Good evening everyone! Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Yep, that would be just fine for warm weather. When warm it behaves like a 40-weight oil, so it should protect just as well when hot as 15w40. The conventional thinking of thicker oil for warm weather is pretty outdated, modern cars have been using 5w20 and 0w20 for years now in all climates. In fact, I towed 16,000 lbs across the country in my old V10-powered Excursion a few years ago running 0w20 oil and it did just fine. I don't recommend thin gasoline-spec oil for your 7.3L, but a 5w40 synthetic is just fine.

The thinner cold viscosity is a better lubricant, but it also runs out leaving less residual protection for the next cold start. High(er) mileage engines with more bearing race clearance need all the help they can get when cold. I'll stick with the heavier oil.

I've had tint that dark on my last two trucks. I worried about being pulled over, but it's not been an issue.

Good evening guys. I took my mom to the seafood buffet at the casino in Danbury for her birthday tonight. Shouldn't have to eat anything until maybe tomorrow night.

Dammit Cory, you forgot to hold your thumb inferring off the license plate when you took that picture.

I ran synthetic year round in my 7.3 for almost 9 years with no issues at all.

Ha ha...earlier today I almost texted someone about that. Was gonna ask if that finger was included with the car, or if it was extra. Silly idea if you ask me...you can't obstruct the plate from the hundreds of people who see you driving around in it every day.
