Well d@mn!

I was trying to eliminate some sag in my drivers-side door by tightening the front cab mount bolt. Evidently I tightened it too much and cracked the face of the cab mount. Don't know why I can't seem to let well enough alone What would you guys do in this case? I assume if I don't repair (mig weld?) it now the crack will continue all the way across the mount. Thoughts?

You better weld it. That won't be so visible down there. Maybe you don't need the rubber? spacer in there.

Thats what I figured. Maybe by spot-welding and pausing between welds I can keep from burning off too much paint.

Before we start welding on this I plan to disconnect the Battery. Any other precautions I should take to prevent damage to gages or the coil?

I can't see how welding on your truck involves any of the circuits on your truck. So I am waiting to hear what the welding experts say.

Try adjusting shims under the mounts instead of just tightening the bolts.

Yeah, I've welded on literally hundreds of vehicles, never unhooked anything. Think of a guy with a welding truck, they don't unhook stuff every time they use the back of the truck for a welding table. It is conceivable, but not even remotely apt to happen, that a welding lead laying across something could cause an induced voltage.

I'm no sheet metal guy, but don't repairs usually involve reinforcement patches? Otherwise maybe it will just crack again.

Thanks for the input guys. As Fred and TC suggests, I need to do some adjustments on the shims under the cab mounts. Once I get the shims correct then I won't need to tighten the mounting bolts so much to get the doors aligned. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!

Got the crack welded and now just need to hit it with a little primer and then paint. Discovered that most of my door sag problem is due to loose rivets in the upper door hinge. We'll have to figure out some way to tighten up the hinge where it mounts to the door.
