Im putting the 49 cab back on the frame having problems with alignment with the new cowls and new firewall. the hole for the mount to inner fender is off. someone said i might have to shim up the front mount. do i also shim up the mount that under the cab floor the same amount help! thank you.
Are the cowl, firewall, and cab mount strut all welded together yet? Shimming under the mount will just raise all of it together, because they are all connected to each other. It's common to have to "work on" repro pieces like this to make them all align.
What's up with that steering box? Is it modified to use a later column?
no welds yet everything just screwed together.steering box is out of a late 80s ford van.I wasn't sure if the miss alignment would affect the inner fender
You should put more pic of your build I see that you are replacing the floor also looks to me like an extensive rebuild how are the door fitting they are less forgiving than the front clip but it all bolts together
Like Ross says I don't see how shimming will help. Did you do repairs to your cab floor?
A lot depends upon the rear cab mounts. I went away from the stamped steel mounts to the solid cast "dogbone" mounts as the rubber bushings are better.
It looks like one of your stampings is incorrect. Can't tell which from the pix. If your seams all match with no big gaps then check to see if your doors fit. If all else is OK you may have to just bite the bullet and re-drill the hole.
