Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 61° and supposed to be climbing to the mid 80's.

Got some lawn work done yesterday and then spent yesterday afternoon / evening up to my knees in a river. Saw some really nice fish swim right by us, but none interested in what we had on the end of the lines. Got home after everyone's bedtime.

Belated good morning Ford fans. I was up late working on a rat problem, then back at it this morning.
Evan you will get faster at diaper changes.

You shouldn't have had your dinner plate strapped around your neck Jim, was a sure indicator for the fish....

What kind of rat problem Chris? Traditional rats, sewer rats, muskrats or neighbors?

I'm just a little rusty. It's been a few years since I had to deal with diapers.

Good afternoon Ford Fans'.

Evan you will remember, just entertaining the rest of us.

Hey Roy, John, Tim.

Jim, just the normal grey rats running around getting in to things. They have been jumping over the traps, so I have been working on counter measures.

Is that the suggestion to the snap trap the buggers are jumping over.

Good afternoon Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Pretty warm out. In for some ice water then off to the local river for some entertainment.

Chris, live trap with goodies they like. or . Once in the trap your imagination can take over as to what to do with them. A box, hose and exhaust pipe works quite well, or as John said, a bucket of water. Just be aware that rats are very good swimmers.
You could also lay out some of the glue paper. They make glue sheets for larger rats as well as mice.

There is also D Con and another product called Tomcat. Usually the rat has time to get back to its layer before the poison hits and they bleed out. Sometimes they even carry some of it back to share with their den mates.
Our local Farm Supply Store carries Tomcat in 4 oz. blocks. The bait stations are kid & dog proof.
I have used all of the above methods quite successfully out on the farm.

There are also various calibers or gauges of firearms that break up the monotony, but I'm pretty sure the local constabulary would take objection to that.

Jim, won't use poison the buggers die some place I can't get to and stink.
I have used alternate methods that have worked well. .177 with co2 works well.

Seeing as they are rats and likely much larger the mice, you could make a trap with a barrel half filled with water and a roller spanning the top with a ramp leading to the roller, smear peanut butter on the center of the roller so when they walk out to it they land in the water and eventually drown..
