That is a lot of coking in ringland. We often see this from extended idling. Not sure if that directly influenced that skirt to quit its job, but something was going on there. Like I said earlier, beating on these engines while they are cold is a BAD thing - especially with a chip.

Could you have loose injectors? If the injector can move, timing is affected. Lot of force under full throttle.

When I removed the injectors they were tight and seated well.

This weekend I should have the crank and timing off. Hoping to get the block to the machine shop Monday.

What bolts would you guys recommend not reusing? I am getting arp head studs. But is there any other things I am not supposed to reuse?

Do not reuse,

Exhaust manifold bolts.

Piston oil jet bolts, I went with welded piston oil jets.

I know those two for sure, there may be others.

I have a problem.. I called the machine shop today. They were supposed to call me before they started on my block to let me know how much they think they need to take off. They said #7 was hard to clean up and they had to go .060 over.. I told him just from I know I think the max is .030 over on these. I don't know if they did just that one or all of them because I lunch break was up.

60 over is a lot but I don't know the limit of the block.

I have no idea on bore limits but can you dry sleeve a 7.3 block?

That would be what I would do then. Sleeve it back to stock or whatever the rest are.
The thought of having one cylinder oversize gets my hemorrhoids all acting up.

Hate to say it this way but I would have it sonic tested. I myself have never tested a 7.3 block. I would guess it is a very nice thick walled block. I know from my FE/427 engines it is common for .125 thrust non thrust and .100 in-between cylinders. I have even run some .09X numbers between as they are just holding water down low. Most shops charge $100 and it is a good price to pay before sleeves. As 8 holes are about $800

Not a bad suggestion, again that would have been nice to have done before boring it to .060".

If this machine shop didn't have a plan before they started I would be nervous.

I am pissed at them. I told them I want it as close to stock size. I'm not a machinist and even I know to sleeve the damaged one match it to the rest.

They should've contacted me and told me what was going on. Not to mention its 4 days last when they said it was supposed to be done and I had to call them.
I am still unsure if they did all to .060 over.. I will call them again tomorrow to get the whole story.

what is a sonic test? I'm guessing to test to see if there is enough of the cylinder wall to be safe?

I would mike the cylinder bores before you took the block back.

Exactly. It's a ultrasound thickness measurement.
