Trip to the lake... 140miles.... 20 miles to go and check engine light comes on. No power, no boost, black smoke. Slow down and light turns off and back to normal. 1 mile from lake house and does it again but going 25mph. Baby it with no power to house and call it a night.
This morning start it it no problem. And make a few small trips no problem.... I had thought tranny slipped a bit in 1st once on the trip. I baby my truck, but do often tow heavy... 5er and firewood trailer...
Tranny fluid and engine oil OK. Tranny fluid smells burnt though. I gotta get home Sunday any thoughts or suggestions???
My though is I don't understand how you think this has anything to do with the trans. You have a problem, and that problem is forward of the flex plate.

I just think tranny because fluid smells burnt and I am certain it slipped in 1st gear when I had to get on it once.... I don't know though just worried about getting home with family on Sunday.
Im thinking your EBPV is closing on you while driving, therefore you have a choked exhaust, no power, no air, black smoke. I believe you can unplug the EBPV solenoid(its one of the plugs on the intake spyder I believe) and it will keep the valve in the last position it was in. So if you unplug the solenoid when the truck is running good it should keep it open.
Someone confirm if I am right, I may be wrong but I believe I read this.
If not the ebpv then I'd say it's gotta be a dying turbo. Pull the intake off the turbo and inspect the wheel for damage and check the in/out and side to side movement.
