Tranny troubles? E40d
Today I decided to check the tranny fluid level in my 1994 XLT v8. As some background, I've driven it 5-6 times since purchasing a month ago but no extended trips or any with a load...and I've not noticed any problems shifting or otherwise any problems with the tranny. Well after I started the truck to allow to idle on level ground, I pulled the tranny dipstick. Not a drop of oil. I wiped the stick and checked 2-3 more times. Nothing. Now I'm worried. The previous owner claimed he just changed the tranny fluid...but who knows. I have notice some VERY SMALL drips around the inspection plug in front of the tranny, but have not noticed any tranny dripping or puddles in the driveway.
Note: The dipstip had a white pull handle on it...it looked out of place for the rest of engine. And it was only about 3 feet long which seems short to get all the way down to the bottom. Is this normal?
Do I have a very serious problem now? I hope the fluid level is just VERY low and needs to be topped off, but I'm worried there could have been damage done to the tranny if the fluid level was so low. I have a mechanic I can take this to that lives close by, should I not drive it until I can get to him?
Thanks everyone.
