Where did it go?

The tranny fluid in my C4 that is! My truck started up and seemed to run fine in the city until I got out on the highway. At about 30mph it quit accellerating and started vibrating like crazy. It just wouldn't go any faster, even with the pedal floored! I pulled over and checked the fluid in the tranny, there was nothing on the dipstick! I idled home and parked it. If the truck isn't leaking fluid and the tranny isn't wet underneath, where did the fluid go? I just checked it a couple of weeks ago and it was fine! What the heck is going on? I topped it off and it didn't help anything! The truck still vibrates under load and is now reving up while your driving like it is slipping! Help please! Any suggestions would be great. And the biggest question, where did the fluid go??

A bad modulator valve will allow trans fluid to be sucked up the vac tube into the intake and burned but you should notice white smoke out the exhaust.

Pull the hose off the modulator valve and if you get any fluid, it's bad. if it's slipping and vibrating now, you probably cooked the sucker! Time for a rebuild.

That vacume hose that comes from the tranny to the rear of the intake was wet with oil inside! So thats where it went! Thanks guys for the input. So does the vibrating mean I toasted my converter or tranny?

Have you tried putting fluid back in the tranny yet?I blew a line one time, and it did the same thing.I refilled it and it worked ok.You might have damaged something by trying to get it home under it's own power though.I had mine towed when it started to shudder. You might get lucky.Good luck.

Chances it's not the converter that's causing the vibration. What gear does it slip/vibrate in?

It was only about a mile that I drove it with no fluid. But who knows how many days it was empty. I did try topping the tranny off with more fluid but that didn't help..
The tranny works fine in 1st and 2nd but when it hits 3rd gear it starts vibrating like crazy!

Replace the modulator valve and see if that fixes it.

With the tranny shifting thru the gears, technically the modulator is working, but the diaphram inside is bad. As it's shifting it's also having fluid sucked thru the line into the intake. You can try a modulator valve, but chances are you damaged the internals. When you take the modulator valve off, be careful not to lose the pin that's behind it. Without it, you'll never shift even if the tranny is still good. After you filled it and went for a ride, what color and does the fluid smell burnt? That's a sure fire sign of it being out to lunch.
