pro-tip, install hooks on both ends of your chains. You can hook them to your truck prior to backing under the goosebox. Then install heavy shackles onto the goosebox. I do not have to climb into the bed to mess with the chains.
This is a great idea. I just installed a Gen-Y gooseneck pinbox on n my trailer and given how Gen-Y only uses a single chain that passes through the pinbox I can't visualize a strong enough option to accomplish the same thing. Any thoughts?
This thread is titled “Let’s see those 5th wheels”. Well, I don’t have anything yet to show but we just signed the papers for a new custom ordered Alliance Paradigm 385FL. It’s the basement storage floor plan that should allow us to easily travel with our kayak, paddle board and a couple of bikes securely loaded inside out of the weather. Factory is saying we should have delivery around mid-June or so, we are really looking forward to the upgrade.

We picked this up about 2 weeks ago, will be marketing the Excursion in May, will really miss that big wagon…….lots of memories. Looking forward to making a whole bunch more with this new combo!

First things first, we want pictures when you take delivery and what will you pull it with.
Secondly and very important. Either by spreadsheet or a note book but create a log of your travels and miles and then of course your maintenance of the unit. Somehow you have to know when it is time to repack and grease those bearings etc.
Probably one season and then replace those chinese tires and keep your speed down to 65 mph.

The standards/options list says that G-rated are standard with H-rated as an optional upgrade. But they don't mention the brand.
The list of standard items is impressive. The list of upgrades, even more. Having recently broken a hanger bracket, "Spring Hangers With V-Bracket Reinforcement" as a standard item caught my eye.

I purchased the manual latching Gen-y pinbox 3 years ago when I bought my 5th wheel because I knew I would have to get into the bed anyways to hook the chains. I dont know how you avoid getting into the bed to attach the break-away cable. I wouldn't want the extra weight or length of multiple extra feet of chain that I would have to tuck somewhere after I hooked up. The only thing I dont have to get into the bed to do is hook up the 7-pin cable.
With my CHMSL camera, my wife guiding me back while she stands next to the leveling controls, putting the pin in, hooking the chains and break-away cable it only takes me less than 2 minutes to hitch up. It takes longer to do a walk-around after it's hitched and grab the wheel chocks than to actually hitch it.

Scott, pics of the new 450 are in the post directly above yours, I think we were both posting at the same time.
Logs will be kept for both the truck and fiver, I have always kept vehicle logs, even my ‘94 Geo Metro has its own log.
The current TT has Chinese ST tires on it, but they are the all steel G rated Sailuns, have had excellent performance out of them for over 7 years and a lot of miles. But I know exactly which types of china bombs you were talking about.

Yes, the standard tires are G rated, we are having the MorRyde independent suspension added which includes the upgrade to H rated Cooper 17.5”s and disc brakes, so no spring hangers, reinforced or not Jim. One of our travel friends have had multiple hanger failures on their Pinnacle, thankfully they just had a mobile welder fully replace all of them and add significant reinforcements. In addition to the independent suspension we are getting the slide topper awnings, generator prep, water distribution manifold, washer and dryer stackable units and the super Solar upgrade. The solar upgrade will have a total of 960 watts of panels on the roof and 3xs 100hr lithium batteries along with the supporting electronic gizmos. I’m considering adding more panels and additional batteries once we have it. If I do go with a solar expansion I will be talking with you Jim.
Before the truck even arrived we found a good deal on a lightly used (3 trips) Hensley Trailer Saver BD-5F full air ride hitch. 3 AirLift air bags and 4 shocks should make for a comfortable towing experience for both us and the trailer.
you got some big plans, lol. Look forward to how you like it all once it is in your hands.
We will have several long weekend trips and a week long stay in MD during the Summer to work out any bugs with the new unit, then mid-Sept through Thanksgiving we will be heading South to AR to meet up with friends then West to Sequoia National Park with stops at several other parks on both the way out and back, that should be a good test for both the 450 and fiver!
Here's the rig with the 2017 we just traded and the new puller.
only 100 miles so a bit of time before we hook up but nothing planned until later in May.
