Mind sharing what the pin weight on that beauty is? I keep looking at those NH wagons, but the pin weight gives me pause for a standard F-450. That and stopping it if the trailer brakes should decide to take leave of absence on the way down a steep mountain pass. What say you?
Just drive it like you have no brakes……………at all times! Maintain control!!
Or go by Don’s EZ rule. Take a short walk around the trailer, count the number of wheels on the ground. Now you know how many wheels should be on the truck! It is real easy to get too much trailer for the truck; but not so easy to get too much truck for the trailer.

The way I travel I’m at around 4100 on pin weight. Trucks cargo capacity is 4850 , I also pull it with the GenY gooseneck hitch . So no heavy hitch in the bed . I also have lithium batteries in the 5thwheel that save a little weight on the pin . They also locate the generator behind the third axle also saving pin weight. Haven’t had any issues stopping, have 8k independent suspension with Kodiak disc brakes. Fully loaded the way we travel we are under 24k and it’s rated at 26,500 max . Dry weight is 21 k .

Thanks for the reply. What few NH's I've looked at had pins in the 5-6k range. I've been told the Summit's are a bit lighter, but none as light as yours.
I have no doubt those disc brakes will do the job with ease...when they are working.
Those NH's are beautiful rigs, the fit and finish is second to none, and yours is no exception. The truck and trailer look good together, a head turner for sure.

I've heard of the wheels on the ground method, and as rudimentary as that is, it is sound advice. I cringe when I see what some people are pulling with their SRW 350's, and even more so when it is a 250. "The salesman told me that's what everyone pulls that 20k trailer with, it tows great." The tail wagging the dog.
You can put 9900 lbs over the rear axle (including what is there, plus payload) on the F450. Lots of room there.
I'm not one those guys who think they are the weight police. I am one of those guys who paid attention in physics class when the teacher was explaining "an object in motion". It's how the truck can handle a structural failure or an emergency maneuver that is in question, not whether the truck can carry or pull the load. Too small of a truck in front of a too large of a trailer can get ugly very quickly when things go south.

Kinda depends on how you build it . We have a Majestic 40 foot , that’s inside space . So it’s probably close to 42 foot outside length. We didn’t need a second slide in the bedroom, granite tops , hand scraped wood floors . All of these things add tremendous weight. Also didn’t need solar panels, we prepped for them as well as a second awning. Like I said depends on what you want and how it laid out . We wanted a rear kitchen and that also takes some of the weight off the pin . We did do washer and dryer also a dishwasher. Summit is definitely lighter mostly due to lighter chassis and limited options.

Yep when we were deciding on what we wanted had several rv dealership tell me we only needed a SW 350 to pull a 18k 5thwheel. Not me I wanted a dually and ended up with a 450 for the heavier tires , brakes and axle . The turning radius is an extra bonus.

The stability difference between SRW and DRW is night and day, even with lighter trailers. You made a very wise decision, IMHO. I am in total agreement. Thanks for the info.
