My VISA was hit by the best skimmer I had ever seen (no financial hit, the bank was on it). It was so good I didn't spot it... and I look for those things every time. I'm still waiting for my new card in the mail, and Redhead doesn't take American Express. The are working with me, though. They took my order and it will ship with the discount as soon as I call with my new card in hand. Well done, Redhead!
Bank ATM, next to the bank entrance. The bank personnel didn't spot it until they had indications a skimmer was in play. They caught it only after they conducted the ol' wiggle test (grab the face and yank).
Don't feel too violated, I'm waiting for my 4th. one to show up. One was my fault, two were skimmers and the last one was a online data breach. It's getting so you can't buy BuckZooka reloads anywhere anymore.(Without fear of getting poached...)
Because of this incident (and my insatiable curiosity), I did a little homework on skimmers. Apparently, the ATM at my bank had an anti-skimmer card receiver, and the crooks went online to get anti-skimmer-beater skimmers.
I wonder if the bank can install anti-skimmer Claymores. BLAM! Please take your receipt.
I think it would be cheaper for the bank to have one of their highly paid Minions to go out and yank on the ATM's on a regular basis or at least inspect them once a day. At least you would severely cut down on the number of people getting ripped off. (And make it too expensive for the crooks to replace the skimmers alot.)
