6.7 engine failure

6.7 engine failure
I would like to clear up some misinformation out there. My 2011 F350 crew cab lariat ultimate package with the 6.7 engine just came apart with 104,000 miles on it. I was driving my kids to daycare the other morning and the truck started shaking then the check engine light came on. I took it to the local ford dealer and they looked up the code in the computer and Ford has a service bulletin that if this code comes up to pull the glow plug and check compression. Needless to say the end of the glow plug had some damage and the cylinder is down compression. Guess what. The exhaust valve broke and I need a new engine. $15,000 for a short block. The truck has had nothing but ford products in it. I run fords def fluid, oil, filters, I even buy the windshield wipers from ford. Anyway, The truck was maintained to the tee and ford said they will do nothing to help out even though they know about this problem. I have owned nothing but Fords my entire life and this will be my last one. The biggest thing for me is that there was no warning, it just happened. I have read a lot online about this happening on the 450 and 550's but I would bet that in a few years when these trucks start to get more miles on them that u will see a lot more of this. Ford told me there is nothing they can or will do. I understand things happen and stuff breaks but it is hard to swallow that a $62,500 only lasts 4 years until the engine blows up. Buyers Beware!!!!

Sorry it happened to you. It is frustrating to say the least. Check your auto and homeowners insurance coverages for possible help.
If anyone ever asks I always tell them to buy the extended warranty on new diesel trucks. It an insurance policy that pays for itself many times over in most cases.
I know what you're going through, my 2011 truck (F250) dropped an exhaust valve at 122,000. The bill was over 26k back in 2012.

ouch...my 2011 just hit 80,000 a couple weeks ago...must get rid of it soon..I can't afford $20+K for an engine....same crap they (Ford) pulled with the 2.9L v6 in the 80's Ranger/Bronco II's..they had to have known they would start developing oiling problems after the cam bearings started to wear. Just like Ford knows the early 6.7's have defective valves..this has happened way too many times to be a fluke..they should be replacing the heads on the early 2011's...
seems like the early 2011's (built in 2010) grenade shortly after 100K..

Not sure that's true. I just sold my early 2011 at 145,000 miles and it was running great. To get an idea of what value to charge for the truck, I went out to the auto auction with my nephew and watched a several groups of 2011 Superduties go over the auction block. All were running fine and had in excess of 100,000 miles. Most of them were white XLT trucks, suggesting they came from oil field or some sort of fleet.
My nephew even bought a F-450 with 150,000 mile for a service truck. It was chipped and deleted and ran like a raped ape.
The point is I've seen a lot of these engines with well over 100,000 miles and they are still running great. I feel for the OP. Nobody likes a repair bill like that. Since it's out of warranty, I'd probably be looking for a good mechanic that can do a engine swap at non-Ford shop rates. Also there have been enough of these trucks totaled in wrecks, I suspect you might find a used engine to swap in cheaper than a new short block.
My nephew makes a living buying dodges with bad engines and putting cummins engines from wrecked trucks in them and reselling them.

Welcome to FTE. Tough check to write for sure. Had you joined FTE earlier, you might have known about this issue in the 2011s and protected yourself with an extended insurance policy. I carry a policy on both vehicles to prevent having to write this big check. This is a very known issue in the 2011s.
Good luck. If you get to see the beast all taken apart, post a picture or two.
Again, welcome to FTE.

I would be absolutely sure to contact Crystal as she has requested. I do no know who told you that Ford cant or wont do anything to help you. With 104,000 miles on a four year old truck you need to be sure to contact Ford directly and open a dialogue with them. You may be surprised. The early 2011 6.7L engines had a well known and documented concern related to the cylinder heads. I would bet that they may offer some assistance to you, but, you have to call them. (or PM Crystal)
