You're not seeing it because you're looking in the wrong spot. All warranty information on Ford vehicles is found in the warranty guide, not the owner's manual. You can download one at owner.ford.com.

There is no hopefully about it, ALL F-series sold with Powerstroke Diesel engines for more than the last ten years have a 5-year, 100,000 mile warranty. Unless something has been done that would void the warranty you should be in good shape.

Ok, great! Thanks! I'm hoping it won't be a big deal. It looks like I have a little less than 2 years & 20,000 miles left on the engine warranty.. makes me feel a lot better!

Jdr,

I would skip this unit and look further. The minute risk can have catastrophic consequences - $12k plus. Just not worth it. This is why I dumped my 2011 and my 2008 before it. Just not with the $ risk or hassles of being stranded in the middle of nowhere with a 17k 5er in tow.

Begs the question why I am on my 4th Ford in less than a dozen years. They always look good and run great then the big wildcard disasters with no after warranty assistance from Ford.

The Cummings in the dodges are rock solid, other things not so much. But it is the engine that costs the big bucks up front and to fix when it breaks. This is where the early 6.7's pose a risk. Some have run 200k with no issues, but the 104k failure with right at 5 years with no help from Ford is bs.

Pay $20k less than black book then you can absorb the hit if it is a defective valve that craters the engine. Otherwise move up a year newer.

I love it when Tom is lurking and he reads that "Cummings" word.........

Anywho, I would get the extended warranty on any new Diesel engine, cummins, ford, dura max, doesn't matter. For 200,000 mile coverage it works out to what, .01¢/mile?

Yep, I think all of them can be scary out of warranty if something breaks because none of them are cheap to fix.

Myself as well. I lay into anyone at my dealership that says that. If you cant properly pronounce the name of the product you sell and service you sound like an idiot.

Sounds like what happened to me. 2011 F350. 107,000km (80,000mi) when the engine died. Well past the 5 year warranty, but nowhere near the 100,000mi warranty. And nowhere near how long the engine should last. Mechanic found metal fragments in the oil pan. He thinks a crankshaft bearing went. All truck servicing done on time and properly by Ford dealers.

Did you get any assistance from Ford?

Same failure

Ordered my 2011 F350 c/c 4x4 in early 2010 received it October 2010. On October 17,2017 with 115,000 miles motor let go. Ford tech said he was sure the exhaust valve broke after injector failure. Motor had to be completely replaced at $18,000.00 by the time it was all done. FORD said sorry about your luck there was no assistance but make sure to keep receipts. Love my truck just very sad that my all original 2001 f150 that I gave my brother now has well over 300,000 on it and still going strong. Mine barely made 100,000 on a truck that will said to go 400,000 plus with no failures in test.

Still disappointed with FORD over this, and it was a known problem that bulletins were sent out about. The dealer did my services this should have been addressed prior to motor failure.

Sorry to hear of the failure, Stuart, that's a tough pill for anyone to swallow. Remember that situations like these are still relatively uncommon, though, and replacing the valves and everybody's engine would've likely been an overreaction given the prodigious cost involved. It would've been a much more upstanding decision had they decided to extend the warranty for these components, but unfortunately that's relatively uncommon. Particularly for major failures like these.

I was driving my kids to daycare the other morning and the truck started shaking then the check engine light came on. I took it to the local ford dealer and they looked up the code in the computer and Ford has a service bulletin that if this code comes up to pull the glow plug and check compression. Needless to say the end of the glow plug had some damage and the cylinder is down compression. Guess what. The exhaust valve broke and I need a new engine. $15,000 for a short block. The truck has had nothing but ford products in it. I run fords def fluid, oil, filters, I even buy the windshield wipers from ford. Anyway, The truck was maintained to the tee and ford said they will do nothing to help out even though they know about this problem. I have owned nothing but Fords my entire life and this will be my last one. The biggest thing for me is that there was no warning, it just happened. I have read a lot online about this happening on the 450 and 550's but I would bet that in a few years when these trucks start to get more miles on them that u will see a lot more of this. Ford told me there is nothing they can or will do. I understand things happen and stuff breaks but it is hard to swallow that a $62,500 only lasts 4 years until the engine blows up. Buyers Beware!!!!
yes, 2011 thru 2014 6.7’s have various self destruct problems...

Ford is really good at understanding the exact moment and mileage their warranty obligations expire.

I hope those FTE members expressing confidence in the changes for 2020 read this thread. Problems are not certain with the 2020s but it's not like issues with new designs never occur either. Ford is not great in dealing with existing design or product problems either.

That's a great point Bruce. The 20s also have the new 10 speed transmissions. I'm sure it's possible there will be growing pains as the more powerful 6.7s and new trans are put to the test and drove by consumers. They are great looking trucks though.

My dad's 2011 6.7L (built 2011) main crankshaft bearing failed. 6 months out of warranty (2017), but he was under the mileage warranty. 110,000km (engine warranty was 160k).

Ford said, too bad. You've gotta pay. $14k later and a new long block.

What I don't understand is, why is this not a recall? This happened while he was towing at 65MPH on a 3 lane highway. He was lucky got get the truck pulled over (no power steering, no power brakes) without incident. I thought recalls were supposed to cover you when the failure endangers your life?

Sorry to hear this

the early 6.7’s had various engine problems...no recalls were done...but in 2015 ford released the gen 2 6.7 which included a lot of fixes for 2011-2014 6.7 problems.
