Stopped the truck yesterday and the steering column locked. Tried to start it and when I turned the key the digital portion of instrument cluster showed ---F and --------mi. When I turn the key to on position mileage reads fine. When the key is turned all the way to start engine position the instrument cluster shows --- F and -----mi you can also hear the relay pull in and when you let of the key from start position the relay lets go. No power to the starter. I like the truck it has 344,600 or so miles and I have never really had any problems.
Disconnected battery for 30 minutes – same thing
Tried different key – same thing
Put new relay in 201 and 203 – same thing
Tried banging the steering column up and down a few times – same thing.
Truck is at an auto repair shop now and they aren’t finding anything except no power to starter. Any recommendations?
Hey Folks, I have an issue that has developed suddenly. My 2009 Ford F-150 5.4L with 168,000 kms is having some trouble. When driving, and approaching traffic lights etc it will idle rough and eventually stall out. Place in park, turn the key and it will start, albeit idling rough. It is intermittent however becoming more prevalent. Back in July, it was in the shop having new manifolds placed on it. Not sure if this is related, or possibly something not put back right......
It was an expensive job with lots of labour cost, so I'm throwing this out there before going back to this shop. It doesn't cause any trouble light to come on, however a few months back a trouble code set for an O2 sensor and the U0140 (Network) code was set as well as a possible issue. Nothing since then. Thanks in advance!
Hey All - Sorry for diving right in on the first post but saw a lot of helpful comments on the post and reminded me how great the forums are when I was into messing around with my car and motorcycle years ago.
YES, my 2009 Ford F150 has been at the dealer for 6 months and they just dropped it off in my driveway. Felt like they were not giving it the attention to get resolved and I was the one who always had to follow up to get an update.
They told me it was a bad Body Controle Module and when they would order the part it was supposed to be programmed a certain way for the vehicle and the 2 or 3 times (never got a straight answer) they tried it didn’t work, so they would order another. Definitely didn’t seem like this was their specialty.
If this helps at all the dash gauges were going crazy on my final drive home and throwing charging system errors. Also, I was able to start it up a time or two after. But now, nothing no power.
This is my hunting rig - was running great just before and just about to clip over 300k. Also had just thrown some new tires on it. Would love to get her back on the road.
