It ended up being $700 total to install both sets of springs, do the B mod, buy new custom made u-bolts, and install (not buy) the 4" exhaust.

Shoot, after doing the front so far, I think that's what I'd charge just to do the front. lol

I may get call a shop and see what they'd charge to install my rear C codes. They don't need to be modded or anything, so they might not charge me too much. Tempting.... Tempting...

Would that still be considered "EXcavating?".

The codes relate to the various spring rates that Ford offered for their vehicles. In the case of the excursion we are talking about the springs for the F-series.

Short answer, yes, I do believe the F series springs from 1999-2004 are a damn near exact replacement (other than different ride heights and spring rates). There are different ways to go about it, V/B, V/B mod, X/C, X/C mod ext. From what I've learned, it's the most economical way to get a small lift on the Ex while giving it a better ride and load handling abilities.

Tom is sure to chime in any minute to give you the low down :-P If you are towing heavy, I think he has the best set up.

There are lots of guys on here that really know what they are talking about when it comes to the spring swaps. I really recommend ATS if you decide that you want to upgrade your springs and buy new.

Here's a good starting point I think:

Just a little info to chew on in regards to swapping SuperDuty springs into an Excursion.

This spring swap reference chart my help with your spring selection.
This is my Spring cheat sheet complied from various posts here on FTE mostly from old posts by bruce1954 and Monsta.

The following only applies to 4X4 EXs, the 2X4 rigs have coil springs up front. All EXs came from Ford with G code rear springs, the V-8 EXs all came with B (front B code is much different than rear B code, confused yet?) 4100lb, all V-10 EXs came with C code fronts at 4300lb and all PSD EXs had D codes at 4700lbs.
All the other codes discussed come from SuperDuty trucks (they came with springs that don't suck from Ford.)
Spring........Capacity.....Rate lbs/".....Max travel.....V-10 change.....PSD change
B (V-8)......4100lbs.......330 lb/".........5.02"...........-0.25".............-0.66"
C (V-10)....4300lbs.......350 lb/".........5.01".............0.00"............-0.37"
D (PSD).....4700lbs.......380 lb/".........5.14"...........+0.33".............0 .00"
S codes.....4000lbs.......370 lb/".........4.34"...........+1.22"............+0 .88"
T codes.....4400lbs.......390 lb/".........4.63"...........+1.42"............+1 .11"
U codes.....4800lbs.......410 lb/".........4.89"...........+1.60"............+1 .32"
V codes.....5200lbs.......430 lb/".........5.13"...........+1.77'............+1 .50"
W codes....5600lbs.......450 lb/".........5.34"...........+2.77'............+2 .52"
X codes.....6000lbs.......470 lb/".........5.54"...........+2.90"...........+2. 68"
W codes are from F-450s and X codes are from F-550s and other SD trucks with snow plow prep.

The above spring info has been gathered from posts here on FTE by "monsta" and "bruce1954".

Hey Ohio, I run F-550 front springs with an extra leaf on my EX!

Robb Ross has done a ton of research and has complied a huge amount of really good info on Ford springs, I don't know that he has posted a chart or spreadsheet yet though, maybe he has a link to his somewhere. There have been a few threads where he has added a lot of info about specific springs, I would love to see all of his info in one spot though.

Before:

Front Left: 38 1/4"
Front Right: 38 3/4"

After:

Front Left: 41 1/8"
Front Right: 41 1/2"[/QUOTE]

If I lift that much I will be driving a convertible X after the first time I park it in my spot... I had to take out the blocks in the back and add air bags to get it in at stock height

Skip, Mine tows 10Xs better with the stronger SuperDuty rear springs even with the extra height and I try very hard to stay away from ditches all the time.

I only have the X Codes on up front so far, but with just that, the new sway bar end-links, and a track arm... I seem to actually be better off than I was. I will have to reassess once I've done the B codes in back, but I'm also doing new shocks and a new rear sway bar.
