Aaron I think what happens with the cracked pickup is it creates a heck of a lot of air bubbles in the oil. But also the oil is displaced with air so you won't be moving nearly as much oil. I guess what I'm saying is a cracked pickup could be the cause of a dry hpop res
Nate I've never looked into the pump but I doubt it is moving enough air into the system to cause any idle or startup issues. Air will always take the easiest route and may not be through the pump, just inside.
I didn't think I could be running the res dry either. But, for the cost of the melling, I figured I'd try it. When it reduced the bucking dramatically, I really felt like I didn't need to look elsewhere. Now, I am talking really working it, pulling a 6%grade in OD, almost to the top of a 1.5 mile+ hill. Foot pushin down a long ways on the go pedal, between 35&40 lbs of boost, 1200*, 70mph, with 17k behind me. This was with the T500 too, not the HBJ. I've given up on that pump without even towing, adrenaline will hopefully be in the truck this weekend.
I guess I will find out if the bucking is gone probably memorial day weekend.

Keep us posted. You're doing R&D for the rest of us!
Just curious, why are you unhappy with the HBJ? Maybe the OT forum is a better place to have this discussion, but I figure since we're talking about HPO being an issue here, it is relevant. If not, sorry for derailing your build thread, Andrew.
I can't get over 2460ish psi with the hbj, with raising DC. It's been sent back once already with no improvement. I'm setting a 1211 in 4 different hot tunes, with NO trailer on. Pretty frustrated with it. Never had that problem with the T500. It wouldnt' quite keep up on a hard pull, but saw over 3000 psi many many times.
The solution for sucking the hpop rez dry is a remote feed to the HPOP rez or a higher volume LPOP. There's a plug on the driver side of the engine that you can pull out and run a line up to the HPOP rez. A billet spacer should have a port to use for remote feed or you can pull the plug out of the top of the rez and use that hole for remote feed... like said, a spacer will only delay the inevitable, but an extra feed line will keep it filled.

Is sucking it dry a common thing? Do many people have to do this? Great info by the way! Thats good stuff.
1211's don't make anybody happy but I'm leaving with it Sunday morning. I have some new Hydra Gearhead and Powerstruck tunes to try.
Travis, what's the difference in Stealth and Performance? They also sent me a All Out which of course is Hot.
Stealth tune? That should be a tune that makes no power (dont drive it beyond idle), but knocks the 'cackle' off so that you stand a 5% chance of not having to turn the engine off going through a drivethrough (vs a certain engine shutoff). Mine is still too loud, have to turn it off regardless.
