Evening Katt. If you do have a rod going it's not good. Time for a complete rebuild...
Okay let me put it this way. It sounds like it is from the top, not the bottom. So is there other things that could be knocking? Mind you it was running real good, died, had pump it when it got running, then came the knock. Seems to be louder on the right then on the left. This is when I start missing VW's lol
460 and the oil pressuer gauge was showing on the high end, just started it for a bit, to see if is sounded worse under or above, Sounds the same lol ugh pretty loud let me tell you
Evening gang. Katt... sorry about your luck. Hopefully it's something less than a rod knock. I met Dustin this afternoon and picked up the camper jacks for Dave. I had to make an unscheduled trip to Salem to meet my daughter. Decided to have dinner with my son and his girlfriend too. If I had known we were coming down I may have been able to meet Dave. Next time with more time to plan.
I had something similar happen on my old pickup with the 460.
You never know, you might get very lucky........
Pushrods. Actually mine started out with a minor backfire and the then it died. Had a bit of a time getting it started back up and there was a sickening knock under the hood, left bank. Pulled the valve cover and saw that a couple of the push rods were not as they should be. Got the rocker arms loosened up and found two badly bent pushrods. One was so bad I had a heck of a time getting it out and had to use a magnetic tool retriever for some of it.
Local NAPA store had them in stock and for just a couple of bucks and a couple of hours, I was back in operation and the knock was gone. If you remove any of the other pushrods, just make sure they are marked so that you can put them back in the exact same hole they came out of.
Well if I can get a hold of my dad and get him or a friend out here, they can tell. Also can a bearing sound like that too?
Really all told I am about 700 into the truck, so if I have to rebuild I am still ahead of the game. I have gotten so much attention with this truck and had a few tell me they would love to have it. Looking at it logically I can more then get my cash back. Though I don't want to sell it, even with the damn knock, I still love it lol Makes me sad I can't drive it now. Don come make it better!

That would be nice. Well if anyone is going to do it, it will not be me I will have one of my dad's buddies who knows what the hell they are doing, do it for me. Heck I never ever replaced one on a VW and I know those motors in and out. I did shut it off as soon as I got home, drove very little with it running like that, I know better.
Evening folks!
Well Katt, at least you are not too far into it and there is still hope its something minor.
Tiny, make sure dave gets the green mat I set in your drivers seat, its courtesy of don.
I need to go shooting and get away from all the dipchits, find a nice quiet place with my 22 and 06 and find a nice dirt hillside and see if I can unbury a rock or two. Objective is to hit the dirt around the rock, lots of fun.
Hey jim, you are a retired LEO right? Since im a minor its a no no to have a firearm in the truck right? Have to have an adult with me correct?
