Do you recommend your oiling conversion on all 351m/400's when rebuilding? Or just ones that will see higher RPM's? Were just starting a stock 400 rebuild with just an RV cam and 4 barrel carb,no headers yet, but maybe later, its only gonna pull an alum fishing boat and maybe some 2x4 lumber at times and thats it. THANKS.
Hopefully Tim will chime in and give the official answer, but I'm confident he will say it should be done for all of these engines. We have talked about the mod quite a bit and that is certainly the impression I got.
And, while you are waiting, here's a thread on the oiling system that should help understand the system and Tim's mod, as well as others.

Thanks Gary, i want to call Tim right now but i cant. (NO JOKING) 3 weeks ago i went def in my right ear and almost my left as well, i can barley here some one standing in front of me, i just cant win anymore, some thing else goes wrong every single month anymore. Cant get into to see the ear doctor till Jan 14th.
. I would say using Tim's pistons (or equivalent) and adjustable timing chain/sprockets even more important than the oiling mod for a mild, general use engine...

Hard to put value on those things. The pistons give better compression and, therefore, more performance and economy. The timing set helps performance and economy as well by getting rid of the retarded cam timing.
But the oiling mod surely helps longevity. At hot idle both of my M's have/had 15 psi of oil pressure and some valve train noise. Knowing that the oil pressure is being sampled before the run up the driver's side gallery past the lifters, I can only assume that means there's little, if any, oil getting to the #5 lifters. And that can't be good for longevity.
dropped of the papper work this morning, he has herd of doing this to the oiling system and said not a problem doing it this way and seemed to be impressed. He knows all to well about the external line that guys have run but likes Tim's method a lot better,so im a happy camper. Also if you read this Tim, hopfully soon the Doctors will be able to figure out my hearing issues and i feel comfortable enough to call you,i do want to order a couple things for sure. THANKS again to all that helped,Gary.
Bud - I hope they can fix your hearing, and soon. Good luck to you.
THANKS Gary, after having this happen i really feel for the people who are def, this is so uncomfortable its hard to describe the emotions. Im getting some light popping sounds now so were hoping its a good thing.
