CCV Mod

Been searching for some good pic of the CCV Mod but can't seem to find any. Looking at doing this and just wanted to see how others have done it.

I have mine vented into the exhaust, into the 90* elbow that turns upwards for the stacks. However im going to redesign this system very soon, to shorten the hose and eliminate any low spots in the system. It is going to be of the same design, but into the horizontal exhaust just before the elbow.

Just a question concerning the CCV Mod. My 7.3 has what looks like steam coming from the filler cap, when hot. My sons 6.0 does not. Is the 6.0 designed that much differantly that the steam is re directed or does not exist in that motor.

Thanks

looks like steam, or a foggy mist, but I'm sure blow by, the stream of smoke is steady, not puffing. I have not noticed any oil usage, but have not taken any trips lately. I've read some on the topic but how much is to much. Is this normal for all diesels?. I have 68k on my truck with clean oil since birth. My son has a 05' 6.0 with no fog, mist, smoke, steam. Wondering if they have another way of taking care of the matter, egr or something. Just curious.

The crankcases are vented entire on the 6.0 and 7.3

The 'steam' you see is as common as that clatter you hear. Although it shouldn't be excessive...there shouldn't be oil pouring out of it, either, a drip is fine.

I used this to tie into the exhaust:

Here it is installed:

I used a 90* fitting and went straight up and over the motor "to make the oil earn it's way out" and also to get to the other side to be able to tie into the exhaust:

I have a slight stream coming out of my ccv hose on my truck. I was always told it was nothing to worry about. I know a lot of older diesels that have blow by smoke and they operate just as good as they did when they were new. My hose is oily but never leaves spots after prolonged idling.

Personally, I think it's kind of cool to see that little stream from undernearth the truck. It gives it the "old school" look to it.

Yes, it will steam or smoke steadily. A puffing look is indicative of blowby. The more extreme, the worse it is. How bad is too bad is a subjective thing. I have no puffing. Just a steady stream.

Hey Ryan hows the clear hose holding up for you? I was thinking of the clear hose and how it would hold up over the black hose. Think it would be cool to see how far the oil flow will go in the hose. OH and where did you get the clear hose Lowes?

I want to try and come up with a system that would route the vent back into the intake without all the oil mist that goes with it. I had my vent routed to the back, but up here where it is cold I was asking for trouble, read here....

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...-climates.html

I was thinking about coming off the valve cover, over the brake booster, and installing a fitting towards the top of the 4" pipe that will replace the stock plastic connection where the stock CCV would vent into the engine. Maybe this way the oil mist would not get back into the engine....Then using clear tubing (thanks Ryan) to see what is going on....I have to give this some more thought...
