Dave, towing with the broken gear is a non issue. You'll be fine for the trip home. After you get box off the frame, you'll have to look around and see if anything got torn in the process. While that DOES happen from time to time, it's NOT very common on Jeeps. Hopefully, it's just a bolt and go.
Home with the Jeep without incident. It was a bit tricky getting it onto the dolly without being able to steer, but once up there it was golden. I was all set to have problems strapping it down (even with better straps), but it cinched down and didn't budge. I locked out the overdrive on the van set the cruise at 65 and sailed on home.
The steering gear is shot, but the frame looks fine at this point. One mounting bolt is gone, the other is loose and probably bent, and the last one had the mounting tab snap off. The only thing holding it in is one loose bolt, the pitman arm, the steering shaft, and the hydraulic lines. He's one darn lucky guy that he was able to keep it on the road and safely stop.
Tomorrow we're pulling the gear and heading to pick-n-pull for a replacement. Hopefully we'll get him back on the road so he can make it to work Monday. If you see someone driving my van near the MO Vets Commission office in Springfield, you'll know we didn't succeed.
YES!!!! If you get rid of the green bed, you be sure to haul it down here first! I have dibs! (I would of course, come get it)
Rich, if you felt so inclined to get that other green stuff out of that truck, I sure would pay you for it. I guess I'm gonna have to squirrel pieces away a little at a time for my green highboy. I have three of mine up for sale right now, but you know me. I'm not trying very hard to sell them.
I stopped by the shop today and got the brown truck and Ka'Bluey fired up. I even snuck Ka'Bluey around the block to keep him limbered up. Hey Bob! Ka'Bluey said he's anxious to have you drive him again, so make sure you stop in for a visit!
You might be able to trade that bed for some wiring assistance. You and Edmed need to PM link up and work that out, he is having dash light problems. I am getting him a new/used cluster, he has the top warning lights, instead of gauges.
Help locate him a steel flat bed frame/with wood decking or offer to build him one, that flat bed the bro inlaw had was to wide for his application.
And Alan how bad to you want another bed tool box? I know of a certain truck that still has one, it is in a secrete location...lol And I could sawzall it out for a fee or as always we could work it out in trade wrenching?
Rich. Not sure if I need one right now. Ka'Bluey has one and Alice has one. The '73 is just a flip truck and the monster truck doesn't need one. I'm not sure of the fate of the new truck yet. I'm getting like you and feeling the need to streamline a little.
hey ed cool trucks....freeze plugs are easy usually, might have to move a few things depending on engine .. i have a snap-on instalation tool that works great in tight spots.. if you need it let me know and we can set up a relay maybe from alans or something.. i am a little further south than most of these guys
You guys suck, making me want an old ford truck..... when i have a jeep to finish, a 90 f150 to 5 speed, and now dad's s10 to rebuild since he 'tatered a deer.
Alan if you're looking for a trailer to haul Earthquake around, one of my tenants has a I think it's a 20' heavy duty car hauler for sale, He said to make an offer. it's in Nixa just off of Main and Tracker roads.
Also there's a flat bed, not sure if it's for a singele or dual wheel truck on the corner of Hwy 14 and Nichols here in Nixa. That's all I know about it.

Ha! I'm open to whatever! I have a neighbor that's going to give me some quotes this week on fabricating a bed. As far as the green bed, I am open to trades, especially with the things that go bang.
