alan a little epoxy and paint might help with that steering wheel. ones that vintage in good condition are few and far between. i may even know where there is a good horn button if it dont fit my truck...
good morning missouri.... still dark down here on the creek so hard to tell if it is going to be a nice day or not.. not sure what i will get into today would love to go digging thru more junk yards but i guess i should go to the shop and do some real work..
Up early prepping the tow dolly for a run down to St. Claire for his Jeep and finished sooner than I thought. Everything is ready to hook-up and go here in 30 minutes or so. RC - I'm using better straps than I did on the '71 so I can breathe a little easier on the return trip.
I'm a little concerned about this broken steering gear - that can be a nightmare if the frame is tweaked. I'll be in touch with Alan if it is...
Not sure what the day holds in store, but I think I'm gonna start putting my new model together that Tiff bought me. I bought the dent side Ford and a monster truck model, so I want to combine them and do a model of EQ.
I also need to go pick up my chainsaw at the shop. It's been ready for a while, but I haven't had the chance to go get it.
Dave, towing with the broken gear is a non issue. You'll be fine for the trip home. After you get box off the frame, you'll have to look around and see if anything got torn in the process. While that DOES happen from time to time, it's NOT very common on Jeeps. Hopefully, it's just a bolt and go.
Good morning all. Grandpuppy decided to eat the living room satellite remote and changed the channel to BET in the process, Directv will be out by noon with new remote and upgrade the receiver. That is service.
Woohoo! Satellite receiver is upgraded to higher resolution to match our TV and the new remote works from even the pool area. Off for some shop therapy.
Yes and the passenger side is still there, and that panel is ok, the dvrs not so much. And green visors.....green seat belts, seat belt covers, dash. I am sure the dash pad is shot.
My 78 sitting today...no start, can't hold antifreeze...
My 79
Hey guys
I've looked through the threads and have seen your rides. Just wanted to share mine...you can see on the 78, why I want to move to a flatbed, or something more appropriate...just get her mechanically sound, some good shocks, good wheels and tires, good dash lights (thanks Rich), and she should be good to go...
Hi borderbum,
Cool you're in Joplin a bunch, feel free to stop by. I'm always looking for some ideas on how to get my 78 to where I want her...
Looks like nice finds, Rich, to your JY run. I am back sliding a little mechanically on the 78...she's hemorrhaging antifreeze and my starter just quit and the coil/battery thing seems fine...off to my buddy's place and at least get her over the pit.
Rich, you had advised me about the freeze or knock out plugs, that if they are rusted or leaking, that it's OH NO time...I'm assuming that's not a good thing, but could you guys educate me on what I'll be in for if that's the case?
If the freeze/knock out plugs are rusty and leaking, you have to knock or tap them on one side in a twisting (imagine a quarter spinning on its edge) motion to be able to grab them with a pair of pliers to remove them. YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOCK THEN INTO or inside THE BLOCK.
Then get some new ones and tap them back in with a socket, PITA to get started straight. Seems like a REAL PITA with the motor installed, I had a hand with mine (thanks again Alan) and the motor was removed and hanging from a chain, so that made it way easy.
What ever you do DO NOT scrap that green trucks bed, it has the bed side tool box with the 3" chrome. And that is like hens teeth to locate. Rare for sure!
