1978-1979 Crew Cab build thread
Would people enjoy the vids if you went through the effort? Sure.
Do I blame you if it's just too dang much to deal with to make it work it? Nope.
I'm a gluton for punishment, obviously.
Trying something different. Got Rodriguez cigars from key west. Got some rum from key west as well.
Story time!
Trucks back from the shop!
we clearanced the inner fender on the passenger princess side.
front end is on. Cool hood fits.
Monster bumper on!
even lined up the fenders better than before.
time to reconnect the important stuff and see if we can get her to fire off.
stick- who took the pictures to reconnect properly?
cadatheous- I thought you did
Unc- checking phone like a Crack head looking for their next score
tractor- I had replaced my phone, mine are gone. I'll check my cloud
cloud- what pictures
kiddos- oh no (insert meme here)
Unc- $#!! *$!@
so here's what we did.
I literally grabbed every picture of wiring that I had taken or received in regards to main wiring.
tell me what you see:
That was literally the only picture I could find on my phone. My cloud not wanting to cooperate (at that moment).
Well hells bells, let's just do it.
So did it, we did. Incorrectly.
Couldn't get it to light up.
switched a few around.
It cranks!
No fire in the hole.
Solenoid is flagged. Replaced.
Cranking, and cranking, and more cranking.
Lots of air in the fuel line.
fried the starter. New one goes on.
Let's fill the fuel bowl ourselves.
Crank, it lives!
Unc- I hear piston slap!
Stick- its still trying to start while its running
Shut it down!
Stick-piston slap is a gasser thing. It's an injector slap. motors only been sleeping for 10 years.
Unc- 8, but whose counting.
Baremans to the rescue.
And put that starter lead on the on the other lug of the starter.
Chooching, but alive and not trying to start while already running.
An exciting day, no doubt.
took a few more to get the baremans to loosen up the injector.
I can't wait for you all to see these videos.
next week, transmission fun.
love and diesel,
Unc Killa
1st and foremost, an apology for the delay. 1st world problems, but here we go:
Eleanor is good. Still much a way to go to be street able.
But the good news for you is it runs, moves, shifts, and stops (Ish).
So, I guess the beans to spill.
was working on my boat for the LOTO Shootout. You know, stuff and things. So, Eleanor got bumped back because she (my better half, not Eleanor) really wanted to use our new (to us) 6.2 powered Raptor to tow the boat down. Who am I to say no to air-conditioned seats?
Plan was to have the huskies put into doggy boarding while we were gone.
Well, one of the doggies had ring worm. Boarding won't take them until all clear. Started the meds, but needed to plan accordingly just in case.
Modified the boat so me and the dogs could possibly sleep in it (don't want to burden the family with my heathens). You know, cassette toilet, Mooring cover, stock the alcohol, etc.
Then the Friday before we are set to leave, the same puppy with the internal living spicy noodles in her gut got schmucked by a suburban doing 45mph. She's alive, but with a severe leg break. (Fast forward to today, she's good. Just restricted for another 3 weeks). Thank goodness for pet insurance. So, stay-cation it is.
So played nurse between he 3 of us for several weeks= no worky on Eleanor, or in the shop in general.
Then, last Tuesday, my landlord dropped the bomb; they have another business idea, which will require them to not renew my lease, and I have 60 days to move out.
1ST world problems, I know.
But this now pushes me to not only knock out all shop projects, but to get Eleanor ready to be back on the road sooner than later. like before thanksgiving ready is the plan.
So now that life is somewhat back to normal:
the mistake list this Sunday
the to do list Sunday after
All the other stuff to come after
Love and Diesel,
Unc Killa
Dragon's Milk...check
Macanudo...check
Losing my "s"...check
So, kiddo's, todays little list is all about mistakes.
And if you know inebriated unc killa, this stuff happens.
Even not inebriated unc killa makes em.
So, this is not my first "build" so to speak. But this is my 1st where there is literally no notes to follow, another's dude build, etc. But.... that does not excuse a single mistake I (or we) have made.
Hopefully, something here might save you some time.
1. Always ask for help. At any stage. If you have friends or relation's that have half a brain, maybe they can help with problem solving.
2. Take all the pictures you need, or don't need. Do not rely on the "cloud" or web-based service (FTE collective groan. If you know, you know). Use your computer, use a back drive, and maybe one more back up to the back up.
3. Measure more than twice. I may have to have the rear drive shaft redone as I bought new rear springs as there is a noticeable sag to my back (not quite a Carolina squat, more of a drunk uncle squat). Should have measured top of fender to ground, front and back, a long time ago before doing the driveshafts
4. Before removing wiring, that you paid a lot to have done, despite taking tons of pictures, label them. Period.
5. Do not put Diesel oil in your transmission. AKA, read your labels on fluids.
6. When someone says they can get it done, specify specific time frames. (2.5 years gone in my case). Even if its custom, there should still be deadlines versus relief that someone will do it.
7. Don't think it can't be done, and you're just burning money. It can be done, and it may take time to do it. But it's your dream. And your money
8. Prioritize. Especially on a big project. I know sometimes it was a parts thing for Eleanor, this, that there, and the other. It would have been much easier if she moved under her own power, but instead I focused on other stuff. Worse part about this; Cardatheous and I had her running of the donor's steering column leaning against the windshield (Did I ever share that video?) 7 years ago, I believe
9. Keep track of your home life. I'm pretty sure my better half harbors some resentment towards Eleanor. (I believe she referenced Eleanor as my mistress once or twice).
10. Smile! Do not forget why you are doing whatever it is you're doing. It's a labor of love.

Unk Killah
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I am here to share with all the kiddo's that your favorite Unk has found a shop! signed the docs today. So, you are the first in the internet world to hear this.
and let me tell you, it's frikin amazing!
It's another body shop, btw. but 2-3 times larger than the current set up.
Room for shenanigans such as a fab area.
Upholstery.
storage.
Room to create content for a soon to be channel (still working on that, btw).
Two paint booths, one for cars, and one for trucks (not sure if my big *** dark horse will fit the paint booth)
Made my youngest promise that we will learn body work/fab and paint.
Best of all, was able to negotiate a little to ensure the costing would be not much more than I am paying currently.
Freakin pumped. Had to come and tell you all the good news.
Taking over this coming Monday, got 4 weeks to vacay the current shop at that point.
Thanks to all who have been following along, and thanks for your patience through the turmoil.
Love and Diesel,
Unk
I've got some back burner projects that I will be doing. They will require some space, especially with what this place offers.
I don't need more space to be tempted. I have a medical condition known as "Financially Irresponsible Syndrome", better known as "Played with too many Hot wheels growing up".
