How can I verify an F-250 is an FX4
Good morning, all.
I am brand new to this site so first and foremost I want to say thank you for allowing me to join.
I have never owned a Ford but really want to change that. I like the F-250 FX4 4WD and am looking at used. I'm somewhat baffled, however, by what I am finding. I locate an FX4, run the VIN and it always comes up as an XL. Do the FX4s have a particular VIN that is recognizable without having to constantly have the VINs run?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Take care, and have a great day.

I would check for the upgraded shocks, skid plate, and a rear limited slip differential. I would be suspect of an XL having the FX4 upgrade. It would be real easy to buy a decal and stick it on the truck. I just got a 75 GMC K15 from my cousin, with Z71 decals on the bed.
I wouldn't get too hung up on having the FX4 package- it's mostly a sales tactic. You can easily add Rancho shocks, or any other performance shock, and a skid plate. The limited slip differential helps a little, but in the end, the FX4 isn't a vast improvement off road or in the snow. Driving skill makes a much bigger difference than those stickers on the bed.

You could run the VIN number and see if the FX4 option is listed.

Enter the VIN on the VEHICLE tab.

It is actually quite common for the XL trucks to have package upgrades like that. My current XL and the one before that were both "off road" packages, which is the same thing as the fx4 but with a steering stabilizer and all terrain tires. But like everyone else said, mainly just a sticker.
