I had fuzzy dice, got rid of em...the dash is to big as it is and comes up to high, my dice where almost sitting on my dash...then again, they were huge dice, I think each dice, the sides where 3 1/2 inches across....
Tom,
My truck is reg cab, manual, and 3.55 out back. The pipes are only 2.25in so there is considerable back pressure (i did my homework before dropping $250) theres a good 10 seconds of smack crackle and pop after every gear if i let it and avout 25 ofter revin to the redline. and the k&n was free so i can't help that. how about a mac cold air intake its only $140? i beat that chevy stock and after he had a volant intake and exhaust upgrades and i was stock, now he has a programmer and i can hardly keep up now. its bummin me out. in a year or so i might have 3k to buy a blower but till then its whatever i can get my hands on. thanks!
The quickest way to get your bottom end speed up on that truck, in my opinion, would be to invest in a 4.10 diff gear change from Mustang Performance and install the Diablo Delta chip AFTER the gear change to correct your speedo. An air intake is also a must.
The Volants are beautiful. I love them. But they are, I think, the most expensive of the bunch. Airaid or Mac, either one. My Airaid sucks so much air in that I can hear the sucking noise every where I drive, it's awsome.
Just the 4.10 change and chip, i knocked almost a full second off my quarter times.
The Diablo Delta chip you can get right here at www.motorhaven.com for less than 250.00.
The gear change is not too expensive either. Go to www.steeda.com to get the pinion gear and have a reputable shop in your area do the install for about 150-200 bucks.
Replace your stock plug wires with a set of Taylor Spiro Pro's for the extra spark you'll need. Don't change your plugs to any of that Bosch platinum stuff. The Motorcraft plugs are just fine.
If anything, for now, get the chip and the Mac/Airaid. That'll do ya for now. You really need that before anything else anyway. These are your base items and you need them to build on.
However, if you decide to go with the gear change later, you'll have to send your chip back to get reprogrammed, so you might just want to do that at the same time.

your back to restictive exhaust with those pipes. theres back pressure and its faster money well spent, the sound greets me every morning with a growl.
my friend just got a supercrew w/ the 5.4 he is suposed to run 16 flat in the quarter. he raced me shifting through the first two gears and i slaughtered him do you think iam in the high 15's if not its no slower than any 16. your opion would help since you go to the track.
I race mine all the time. You have a great advantage over my tank. Your single cab manual trans is much faster stock than mine could ever hope to be. Your truck weighs in at about 4020 pounds soaking wet.
Joe (True4.2) has your same truck. He claims that it can do 16's stock. I'm not really sure what your truck does stock.
My truck??? forgetaboutit! 20.7 stock in the quarter!! That's sad.
But, you can view my gallery for pictures of the tank and see my last posted slip at 16.730. so I did manage to knock 4 seconds off the stock time since I bought it new in July of this year.
I think your friend mis-read the specs on 1/4 mile times. I am positive there is no was a SCREW is running 16's with an auto, stock. Sorry. You see all the crap Tom laid into his in order to get that low. A single cab manual runs 16.4-16.6 depending on your:
reaction time
shifting ability
extra pounds
ability to stay straight down the course
You gotta think that a profe4ssional driver hopped into that 4.2 single cab when ford wanted 1/4 mi times.

Your friend is wrong. He definately doesn't run a 16 flat in the quarter mile. How would I know this? Our truck runs a mid 16 in the quarter, and we can be a 5.4 SCREW any day. I've done it as well as others on this forum. Stock, a 5.4 SCREW probably runs in the high 16's low 17's. Our trucks won't just get up and leave them in the dust, but we do beat 'em. The one for sure thing they have over us is more pulling power. Plus, they are a bit nice IMO.
My freind got his 1/4 mile time from motortrend's test drive of one. I didn't know so i asked; thanks clearing that up. Just a question, do ya'll go to the track and race or do ya'll do it down main street when the popo arn't lookin'. Just wonderin b/c the nearest track to me is like half and hour away and it sucks, i prefer main street but would like a time and speed. Do ya'll think a g-tech pro is ok?
I race every week at Moroso Motorsports Park and it's freakin' awsome. The most fun i'm allowed to have legally!
I race every Friday night.
Our track is great, but it's an hour and a half drive for me. Worth every minute. Especially when I run several tenths better. And that's with a case of beer in a cooler in the back of my truck. After I do a few runs, I call it a night, back my truck up to the track, start chugging budwieser's and watch the rest of the races in my lounge chair.
I wouldn't trade my Friday nights for nuthin muffin.
Sorry, but I don't know what a G-Tech Pro is?? Can you be more specific?
these things sit on your dash (size of a radar detector) and plug into your 12v and give you 1/4, 1/8, 0-60, 0-100, hp, torq, readings from your dash they seem pretty sweet. i know they have them at summit racing and you could prolly look them up at a search engine. they have a new one called the competition that reads rpms from your cigarette lighter plug in. i might have to make a trip to the track soon when its around 55-60 degrees and get a time and speed. as for kickin back in the back of my truck and do what you do on friday nights the cops usaully show up so i don't do that any more. that dukes of hazard renactment is tearin up my truck. j/j.
AAAHHH Yes, I've heard of those. My brother was looking into buying one. They sound so freakin' cool. Just plug it into your cigarette lighter and it can read all that info. When my brother told me about it I couldn't believe that they could get that much info from a 12v DC, but apparently they can. That is if they actually work. I wouldn't know unless I bought one and took it to the track to see how accurate they were.
I thought my Bro said they were like 500 bucks.
Dude, do some research and hook us up with URL link. I wanna check one of these things out.
