fast 4.2L?
In your opinion, based on feel, what type of performance gains have you experienced with the JBA headers, how much did you pay, where did you get them, and was it worth the money?
Tom
Those numbers, were all at the RW. Which according to math, and certain calculators, they are correct :P Speed times acceleration...and a bunch of other crap. So "in theory" they do True. Not saying my truck is anything like the theory, but it would work out that way. You cant fake out math...ask my calculus teachers.
I thought the stock valance was lame, so I ordered a new one with fog lights. LoL.....It makes the truck look lower. I dig it
My tonn. cover is only 19 pounds, its a softie. I will take it and the tailgate off when I race soon. Weather around here is crap, so I dunno when I will be able to. Might have to weait until the rainy season is over. But thats not until....april I think.
I am sure my reaction time will suck.....I was just posting mathematical theory numbers. I would have to dyno my truck to even get true RWHP. I am thinking that having a 5-spd will actually help me over the auto. Mainly cause of the extra weight and not needing a TQ Converter.
Out in Sac, you can ride with a driver as long as everyone is wearing long clothes and jeans, and you pay an extra 10 dollars. I could have a passenger sitting next to me with a video camera. I will just opt to mount it on the console. Thats right, Im gonna tape my race
I know your all waiting for that. I will post it sometime soon. I dig the headers, but like I said earlier, I hear a huge fluttering noise from the left side. I wanna correct that and get back to you all. I think it was a double gasket issue, but need to get time to do it. I like em, but I got them in a Power Package from a company that doesnt offer them anymore. It had the chip, intake, headers, and exhaust for 1200 free shipping. I installed everything with the help of my boys. I will post pics shortly, hopefully at the end of the week.
I think I won Tom.
I'm still curious about the valance though. Only because i smashed mine last week and need to get another one. I can replace it with OEM for 100 bucks but I was thinking of upgrading too. Did you buy the OEM flat black with the fog lights? Or did you buy some other custom valance that you had to match the paint up? Do you have a URL for the custom valance.
I need to replace mine.
Check out the "shift points" thread to see how my weekend went.

Garrett
I can't buy it right away as I'll be spending some cash tomorrow morning getting my drive shaft vibration problem fixed. Don't know what THAT'S gonna cost me.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
inline....ahh.....a blower is obvious...ever thought he may not have 3k to spend? otherwise he prolly woulda bought the V8?
Your truck is probably going slower than stock right now.
Your routed a true dual exhaust (which means NO back pressure hardly at all) but only dropped a K&N air filter for the intake.
So, your are expending exhaust fumes faster than your engine can intake fresh air. This WILL deplete torque and slow your truck down.
why did you go with true dual? Your engine, for the most part, requires some level of back pressure. At least until you modify the intake to the point where the intake of air is equal to or greater than the relief of exhaust fumes.
But since you've already got the dual exhaust, we need to work on increasing your intake.
First, bag that K&N drop in..it does nothing. You need a true full piece intake kit. Try Motorhaven.com for various intakes. They all work well.
I purchased the Airaid intake and notice an increased performance right off the bat. Check out my gallery for pictures.
Also, what is really going to be important here is:
1. Do you have a single or supercab?
2. Auto or manual trans.
3. Tire size
4. Rear Differential gear size.
I need to know these things before we can go any further.
If you have an automatic, that is going to require somewhat more work than a manual. You lose a great deal of horsepower with that auto, but we can get that back.
Also, if you have a supercab, the weight of your vehicle is 500+ pounds greater than that of a single cab.
so give me all the info and we'll get your speed up.
My truck, see below, ran mid to upper 20's in the quarter mile. Within 4 months I dropped over 4 seconds off that time.
If you really want some speed, we'll need to install a power adder, sometime in the future.
Nitrous, for the money, is your best bet and is very safe on your motor. More safe than a turbo or supercharger. And only costs 500.00. 75 extra horsepower for 500.00 is a great deal.
But, we don't need to go there yet.
Believe me, with my heavy pig of a truck, I beat chevy V8's quite frequently. I think the Chevy V8's are not that fast.
Start with giving me the complete info on your truck and we'll work from there. Over time, we will get your truck quarter mile speed up considerably.

I suggest you listen to Tom he knows what he is doing.
I'm not spending one more dime on my truck for at least a few months.
That is if I don't break something at the track
