I was reading about getting an A&P Cert. a few weeks ago since my AFSC (2A653) is eligible for enrollment in the program; how do you like working in that field? I figured it was worth looking into since I'm eligible.
I like it but I do it only for a hobby.. I've never been paid to work on my old airplane.
I am sure there is a need for A&P mechanics today.
Wow! That is one nice Luscombe. I love the older aircraft. I've always wanted to get my PPL and buy an Aircoupe. Prices are just outrageous nowadays, though.
Sorry for late reply. When i finish high school (senior year) they're putting me for basic and then tech school. My recruiter said it's official, you're air force reserve for the time being. My AFSC is 1A211. aircraft loadmaster
You will be TDY all the time and see the world for free. I was a 2A3X3B.
I'm an Electronic Technician for a large Oilfield services company (you Definitely know them)
Anyways, I keep Large computer automated equipment playing nice with each other and their operator! if one of my toys break I get to be responsible for 28k/hr downtime and holding up a 3 million dollar job for us and a 50 million dollar well for our customers! But, Like tonight nothing broken, I get to just chill in the cab of our Work F350.
yep, basic is where you'll hear and see some of the funniest things of your life, and tech school isn't a bad time either. I hear they shortened AF basic from 8 1/2 down to 6 weeks again? It's easy as long as you blend in with the crowd and do your best to go unnoticed... just don't be the idiot that shows up at lackland with a 'fro and tie-dye tee shirt.
I'll try my best not to stick out, i'd rather not be picked on too terribly much

Phew. i wouldn't mind being TDY. just as long as i don't have to serve tours in combat. and that seems interesting. the f-16's were one of my favorite aircraft because of the navy's blue angels. then the f-22 came around....
USAF Crew Chief (back when it was still 43151), then I have worked aerospace both in Production and Maintenance, mostly MRO (airliner maintenance) and some GA

A lot of interesting professions here on the forum, I admire you guys that can do the same thing for 30 plus years. I suffer from ADHD and need a bit of variety in my work life.
Hey Laser Target, I take it your in either Trenton or Edmonton? I was an airframe tech on Kiowa's and Griffin's way back in the 90's. Currently risk management and risk selection for a large insurance company.
Many odd jobs while in college and then 31 years with Va. State Police (every day brought something new with it), now retired ..... and part time at Advance Auto Parts and enjoying "retirement".

I don't know how they do it, either. Two years of working on cars and I've about had it. I'm hoping a career in the fire service will offer enough variety to keep me happy...assuming I can get on in the first place.
Apparently job-hoppers make more money than the 30 year guys. Makes sense, I guess.
