I think you might have looked for places near the L.A. Convention Center...your hotel is next to the Anaheim Convention Center. There's 30 miles or so difference Here's an Enterprise that's a few steps from the Anaheim Clarion:
Enterprise Rent-A-Car
HILTON ANAHEIM
777 CONVENTION WAY
ANAHEIM, CA 92802-3497

Thanks , when I gave my wife your info she corrected me by saying that she was looking around the air port, and that she didn't know what transportation cost from airport to the Clarion.

Which airport? John Wayne would be the most convenient to Anaheim. Why not just rent your car at the airport?
Long Beach airport is about the same distance, but flight selection isn't so good.
I'm coming in at LAX. We tend to stay away from the airport rentals. Prices are usually higher, and when you tell them your going out of state their prices go up considerably.
Do they have shuttles that go out to the Convention center area?
Being the old guy, we tend to try to make it easy and sometimes get in our own way doing the process. So help is greatly appreciated.
I would call the Clarion and ask them if they have a complimentary shuttle. I would bet they do to SNA. Would not surprise me if they even do to LAX. With Disney so close, they almost have to to compete. Worth a call. Once you get to the hotel, Enterprise will shuttle you to their rental desk. Some will even bring the car and do the transaction at your hotel.
Number two has WAY too much wind resistance to win.
Cool thought, but not a winner.
I suspect number one is probably outside your rules for Pinewood, and would be DQ'd. Of course, you may be on the rules committee, and it would qualify in spades!
Your post got me looking into rules, and one place stated something like "No pre-made cars allowed". That sent me to eBay to search "Pinewood". THAT really opened my eyes!
Take a look at all the stuff that's available to the highest bidder!
Sadly, really sadly, I suspect there are some dads that go this route, and never spend the time with the kid building his racer.
Anyone in the San Fernando Valley have a referral to someone that fixes air conditioning units?
I have a Lennox unit (model GCS16R-651-75-7P) on my roof that is about 20 years old. It is both an air conditioning and a heater. I have previously heard this referred to as a "modular" unit.
I discovered the unit not working when I arrived home this evening.
There is a dual-pole 50amp (is this actually 100A?) breaker on the electrical panel and two 60A (NON-60 ?time lag?) fuses near the unit on the roof - one of which was blown. I turned off the breakers at the electrical panel, replaced both 60A fuses on the roof, and the A/C unit still doesn't turn on (although it does not seem to be blowing the 60A fuses). The unit is also not working as a heater. I'm starting to wonder if the inside the house wall mounted thermostat is broken.
I've got a GREAT HVAC guy. Don Cunningham. He's saved my bacon more than once.
Look up Cunningham Heating and Air Conditioning in Reseda.
He's honest as the day is long, and when calling him in the past and describing my fault condition, has even suggested the most common reason and told me how to fix it myself.
I just looked up his Yelp rating, and it sux, but I would have him do my work before anyone else. He's good at what he does, but not necessarily patient with idiots.
Seems like I'm spending more time away from Bakersfield than in it while at work. I've been to LA county twice this week and last night went out to San Bernardino.
