We took the fifthwheel down to Julian this weekend. Those new mirrors are fantastic! They are only around 1/2" larger in H+W, but are also more rectangular, and don't lose as much due to rounded off corners. I won't miss the C-Betr's.
It was our plan to watch the Independence Day parade in Julian, which is a quaint small town affair. But it was cancelled due to a wildfire the day before, and I think a couple of homes were lost. The townfolk were all abuzz about it.
We enjoyed a couple days of camping anyway. The hills around Julian and the Pine Hills area is absolutely crawling with wild Rio Grande turkeys. We saw hundreds.
No public land around that small area, as far as I know. What surprises me is that the coyotes don't keep the turkey numbers down. Or bobcats. Or mountain lions. It seems like an unnatural number of birds, but it's been like that for at least the last 10 years.
Farm fresh beets for dinner tonight. I was surprised how sweet they were. Not my moms recipe, but pretty good boiled beets. My better half refuses to eat 'dirt'.
Awesome trailer, just what I'm looking for... Hmmm, lottery?
buddy of mine upgraded a few months ago to the SSBC 8 piston calipers and rotors kit the clay sells over at riffraff, and he gave me his old rotors and pads for my truck. that have somewhere around 3 to 5k miles on them and mine were shot.....

Sweet! Free brakes.
What did he do with his old calipers? It might be interesting to rebuild a set to have as spares, though if you change the brake fluid on a regular basis, and lube the slide pins, you may never need them.
ya free is good! he was not happy with the stock braking performance and with upgradeing to a little bit bigger 5th wheel toy hauler more brakes are good!
the SSBC calipers are HUGE!!! after he installed them we went for a little test drive.... did a few 65mph to 0 stops and holy hell they about lock up the front tires and put ya in the windshield!
the nice part is they fit in the stock 16" wheels
as far as his old calipers hes keeping them for now, plugged, bagged and boxed up for safe keeping with the stock rear posi diff and 3.73 gear sets.
on a side note after putting 35" tires on his truck with stock gearing of 3.73 the truck became a dog, usually the charts say 4.11 will put ya back to stock ish..... well after about 2 or 3 months and 6 or so towing trips out to oceano dunes, glamis, jawbone cyn, and lots of calculations and a many long chats with beer while camping 4.30s would give that extra little touch over 4.11 gears and 35" tires and not as deep in the basement as 4.56's
after he had his truck re geared to 4.30's holy hell even in stock tune the truck walks the 34' triple axle toy hauler around like its nothing. and now the truck can happily sit in overdrive with the trailer and cruise control at 1800 to 1900 rpm on flat hwy.
speaking of trailers, hows your little trailer gig working out? any more problems or fixes on the trailer?
I am selling the truck and trailer. I don't have any money to take care of any emergencies like mechanical breakdowns, or what not, and taking long drives with no "emergency fund" was beginning to stress me out. The last straw was the last trip I took and had two flat tires within hours of each other. One tire was brand new and went bad, the other tire had plenty of tread on it, and also went bad. So, I am taking that as a warning to get out of the business. So I am putting the truck/trailer up for sale, and looking for a job locally.
