We had a member that had low power and terrible mileage. As soon as he looked at the TC slip (it should be near zero when locked), he saw 100s of RPMs of slip. Bad torque converter.
Mine jumps around when locked but the highest ive seen was 42rpm. Does that mean my converter is starting to wear? Time to look for a triple disk bullet converter?
If I were you, I would log the MPH, RPM, TC Slip, Transmission Temp, and gear. Drive on the highway with cruise control, and go to pass somebody at some time. This will show what's happening with normal driving.
Before you start pulling the trigger guard off your Buck$Zooka, I should have the new TC Slip formula today. The old one is pretty screwy and may mislead you... but up to now it has only popped about 10 RPM on Stinky and the trucks I know of. I'm really curious about your transmission temperature.
Is your fluid discolored (not cherry-red)? Does the smell of the fluid on the stick make you rush to cover the hole you pulled it out of?
Torque Converter Slip
Short Name: Slip
PID: 2211b8
Units: RPM
Max/Min: Max 1000.0/0.0 **
Equation: ((A*256)+B)/4
**I use this max to watch idle in gear. Torque Converter will not lock until Transmission Temp exceeds about 50 - 60 degrees F, you are in Drive, and moving at least 35 MPH (Torque Converter Lock Up - depending on your tune and conditions).
I always knew this PID was not right, but it worked good enough for its purpose. I used a little engine logic on the formula and compared the readings with AE - this is the one.
Using the old formula, I drove to Orange County where I experienced light traffic on the freeway. At 65, Torque showed slip at 0 - 35. On acceleration from say 50 - 65, I typically bounced between 3 - 19 (refreshing at 0.5 second intervals).
I'll try the new formula and report any differences.
The new numbers will be improved, but you are still slipping a little. Watch your Transmission Temperature over long hauls - particularly if you tow. While it's not an immediate disaster, you may be in the market for a better Torque Converter... if your budget allows.
Yeah when i tow my skidstear or backho it slips more, i do have a heavy duty valve body kit and an upgraded dual tranny coolers but i only see 187° max on a hot day. My truck does have 269,000 miles on the stock tranny but shifts great and doesn't seem to slip at all that i can tell, and the fluid is always nice n red. I do really want a triple disk bullet LOW STALL converter. What ive read the low stall would help out with towing. Maybe i know have a reason to pull the trigger on one
I appreciate the new formula, but have a question for you. The default Torque Pro PID configuration updates on a regular interval, however the updated one, when selected, doen't normally update.
Any suggestions on this? Have you experience any situations when a PID wouldn't update on a regular interval?
The new TCSlip is a lower number and more inline with motor RPM until it locks, but I just can't get it to update on like the rest of my PIDs do.

Update, as in show the current reading? I'd have to look into this, I haven't had that problem.
I can suggest you reboot your device and your OBDII adaptor (the adaptor doesn't "reboot" until you unplug it). I've had various issues with OS updates and Torque Pro updates, at one point I had to dump everything and re-insert all the PIDs from scratch. The whole system has really settled down lately, and I have the most recent KitKat OS.
