I found a new code last week, U1262 SCP (J1850) Communication Bus Fault.
Not much on this code but I've read where people go to the dealership to get it fixed. My truck has no chip and stock sticks, but I'd like to pull the PCM incase I ever wanted to put in a chip.
I believe the PCM is in the cabin by the emergency break, but where is the IDM? I found the attached pic, but how do I get to it?
To access the IDM, remove the plastic inner fender cover by taking out the screws and/or push pins holding it in place. Drop the cover down onto the tire and you will have enough room to access the IDM plug and mounting hardware. It is much easier if you have lift/leveling kit to give you additional room.
Good luck with this one had this code in my 02 for a while now and can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone at ford or any of the forums or groups, if you figure it out please post it up
Ya just have to wonder the thought process that put that module there? Hey lets put that sucker where the owner gonna bust his knuckles to replace this!!
It is much easier if you have lift/leveling kit to give you additional room.
You can also use a jack and lift up on the frame. You don't have to jack it until the tire comes off the ground, just enough to get a few more inches of room.
When I saw the post I knew right away it was an 02. Starting with MY 2002 the GEM was replaced with the VSM and the instrument cluster also changed to a hybrid instrument cluster which has components in it that work together with the VSM. My truck would throw that code when I started having issues with the VSM. When the VSM got to the point where the power locks wouldn't work, the dome light stayed on, the accessory delay quit, autolamp quit and the door ajar lamp stayed on I broke down and had it replaced. Never saw the U1262 code again.
A little update here, I cleared the codes and after putting new Injectors in the truck the code didn't return. At this time I can only assume it was a fluke or had something loose causing the issue.
