Working on my daughter's 6.0
Would not turn over, dragging like a bad battery. Found that positive cable was bad and replaced. Did a little better. Had batteries tested an one tested bad, replaced both. Much better but still dragging. Have checked grounds and one will snug to frame but will not lock down tight, gets very snug so not sure if that is an issue, found stripped threads from hole.
Was leaning towards the starter dragging. What is best was to test. Will turn over but very slow. FYI, I have had truck plugged up and temps have not gotten lower than 30*
You can take the belt off and see if it turns over better. Possible that something (usually compressor) is dragging it down. Grounds are very important. You can move a "stripped" ground to anywhere else that a bolt will thread in to. How many miles on this starter, not that it matters. NAPA makes a GREAT replacement starter for the 6.0.

Assuming it's the original, 160k
Try to find a new grounding place that cable will reach. If that doesn't fix it then guess I will take starter to be checked out.

Yeah......bean counters make things like that a challenge sometimes. Everything is so position specific it's hard to "shade tree" anymore. It may be quicker for you to pull the starter and have it checked than repair the ground cable....
Well got it grounded good and still the same. Had starter pulled before I saw last post. Taking it to a local Starter and Alternator shop tomorrow to be checked out.
Educate me on what I would have been looking for if I pulled belt and tried cranking? I take it that if it turns over good, starter is good. But what would have been next??

You start checking to see what accessory is frozen/difficult to turn. AC compressor, water pump, power steering, etc.
If it was me I wouldn't spend too much on getting the starter fixed. IIRC you can get a reman from NAPA for about $160 that cranks quite a bit faster than stock. I've had excellent service with mine.
