Here is an update on what's going on: The mechanic called and said it is fact the turbo again. Before ford will warranty the turbo, ford has to look at my truck. So the mechanic has to take the truck the dealer Monday morning for them to look at it, then hopefully they will warranty the turbo and will have my truck back Tuesday.
On another note, does anybody know the ford part number for a new turbo. I tried calling my local dealers to see if they could get a new turbo instead of a remaned turbo. Both dealers said they don't even offer a new turbo anymore, only remaned, but they extended the warranty to 2 years on the remaned turbos.
I have a question for you retnec: What is the status of your EGR Cooler? About 18 months ago at apprx 190k my '05 6.0 experienced hissing, a pop, white smoke and a loss of power. The Ford dealer diagnosed it as EGR Cooler failure damaging the Turbo. You have mentioned white smoke and I'm sure you know white smoke indicates coolant not burned oil.
Thank you Bismic. According to that the dealers aren't giving me the run around.
One cylinder, That's what I thought it was to. As a precaution I had a cooler put on from a friend that only had 6k on a ford replacement egr cooler. He had the cooler replaced under warranty, decided he wanted to delete it, so he deleted it and i bought his old cooler. So I checked the egr valve and it was clean. still smoking. so i did a vacuum test on coolant system and it checked out fine. so I ruled out the EGR cooler.
I see that on the new unit you are replacing the oil supply.
My question is what oil supply tube did you have on the bad turbos.
The one with the flex in it or not?
Oil starvation will take the turbo out. That old oil line with the flex
was updated to improve the oil flow and keep things from coking.
That is if my memory is right.
I do have the updated oil supply. I thought about paying the extra $150 to go and have them changed out this time just to be on the safe side. maybe one of them is clogged causing oil not to drain and pressure up on the seal. Or starving the oil supply to the tubo. Just a peace of mind thing. I would think just a good spray of brake clean down them and a little air would do the trick to make sure they are clear.
I wouldn't tell ford to do anything until they tell you why it went out. And Ford should not have to look at it period. Just bring the damaged part back and they should replace it.
