Turbo Boost Tips
As said above, stock turbos are not good. The replacement turbo lasted for well over 100,000 miles.. Never had another turbo problem.
TIP: Don't have a hot high running, high rpm engine and just shut it off... Let the turbo cool down first for 2-5 minutes before shutting the engine off.. Turbos can run 1,000 degrees.
Tip: Don't rev the engine at first start since it takes a minute for the oil to lubricate the turbo.
Example:
If you pull off an Interstate ramp, and it's been a few minutes before stopping, that's okay. But it you pull off and immediately turn off the motor.. That's not okay and you risk burning up the turbo since the oil stops when the motor is shut off and the turbo blades are still turning.
Example 2:
Climbing steep hills or pulling a heavy load and you pull over to get fuel or stop on the roadside. Don't just shut off the motor.. Let the turbo cool down and give a minute before shutting off the motor.
I was told the new turbo blades are Teflon coated to help prevent them from sticking to the sides, but that was years ago.. Not sure about today's turbos.
Engine oil cleanliness is vital to the life of the vehicle. In older 6.0L diesels, it was the engine oil that pressurized the injectors..
