Well I think I have some work to do when I get home. If you have read my thread "Road Trip Issues" I have a Loss of power issue, it not keeping me on the side of the road, Yet but its been a challenge. I have a 1000 mile road trip home on Monday, and im hoping to limp her home and do the work in my shop.
I have just purchased a coolant filter kit and will install when I get home along with the IPR. Ford did a coolant flush earlier this year and put there Gold coolant in. Thinking about draining, flushing with distilled water and re filling with a Non-silica coolant
While I have the top end half apart Im considering a EGR delete (since where I live there are NO emission rules), and Oil cooler replace.
Truck has 160,000 miles
CCV re-route to the down pipe
Remove cat and muffler
The Big ?? is the EGR delete,I have had the EGR valve replaced about a year ago, but im not sure that I want this valve protecting my motor.
I have read through tons of posts on this subject and still cant make up my mind.......
Everything stays cleaner if you not recycling SOOT back into the engine Intake manifold stays cleaner even the Oil stays cleaner Since there is always a Trace amount of Blowby that gets past rings etc....
EGR don't help anything IMO
It Reduces NOx but of coarse it does that its basically a Detune
You could Add Less AIR/Fuel Mix and Achieve less NOx
I would delete the EGR. Especially if your area doesn't do emission testing. You can always weld up both ends of the cooler and keep it looking factory. Have you done a pressure test for HG (Head Gaskets)? What about the oil cooler? Do you have a scan gauge to see your EOT and ECT temps? If your going that far check a little further. You don't want to take it apart twice.
Ive already done, stc fitting, stand pipes, dummies, resealed all injectors. Yes I have SG II, AE, Have to make the trek home next week, going to do oil cooler, adding a coolant filter, would like to do the oil rail seals, and the EGR delete, and open up exhaust. I do a lot of hwy driving and just want to cover my bases. At this point I have no reason to suspect head gaskets, but will look into the test and see what is involved.

Doing the above things might be good things in the long run, but I don't think they'll have any effect at all on your current power loss problem.
You might want to fix that first before the other mods...

With the EGR cooler removed there is no path for the exhaust gasses to get into your engine. The EGR valve will just be opening and closing an air path to nowhere so leaving it in place has no effect on exhaust flow. Disconnecting it electrically can have a negative effect on the operation of the engines cooling fan. I would leave it in place and connected to the wiring harness.
Also, leaving the valve plugged in MAY keep your truck from turning on the check engine light. That's the primary reason most people install a tuner (to turn off the CEL). It's good to stop feeding your engine exhaust soot, however just using a tune to turn off the light misses an opportunity to change other parameters, account for the lack of EGR flow, and tune for better performance.
I believe AE has the ability to compensate for tire size and maybe a couple of other variables but you can't write "tunes" with it. If that were possible most of us would be busy ruining our trucks with it .
