EGR question

I have been reading posts on here about EGR failures and was wondering what are the initial symptoms? Only reason I ask is I was pulling a travel trailer and when I stopped and shut the engine off I got out and walked around front. It was making a gurgling sound in the front of the engine. Was just curious what starts to happen with that EGR fails? Should I just delete it?

Thanks guys

Daniel

you can also pull out your egr valve and look for excess moisture. has your truck coolant level dropped any?

you can also check your coolant for the presence of oil. the oil will plug a egr cooler.
use test strips to check for exhaust gases in coolant.

The first thing I noticed when my EGR cooler went out was coolant mysteriously disappearing. I'd add more coolant but it kept disappearing. Went through about 4 gallons over a 3 or 4 month period. The next thing I noticed was a change in the cooling fan operation. It began to kick on more often and under less load than it previously did. The cooler finally blew right after I completed a short towing trip with a 10k trailer. I heard a muffled bang sound, followed by lots of sweet smelling steam and soot-laden coolant coming out the exhaust pipe.

No, it didn't hydrolock. Ran like crap on the way to the shop, though.
