First start of the day the wait start dash light only stays on about 15 seconds. The light turns off but the gpr is still energized for 1min 45 secs if ya just let it sit there with key on engine off.
The cig volt meter will show volts go up win relay turns off. Led mod light will just go off. Then start truck.
My voltage readings using the OBD II scanner were low. My truck wouldn't start either but after 6 cycles and my foot in the pedal she finally fired up. I'm replacing the glow plugs and going from there.
I didn't see anywhere that you tested your GPR. Did I miss that somewhere?
I say that is because I just went through this yesterday and my GPR was bad. My truck wouldn't start cold and tons of white smoke.
If you did test your GPR, how did you test it? Did you take readings on both sides of the relay, with the key off and on?
Sorry if I missed where you tested it.

I agree. I'm all for new Glow plugs, but isn't it rare that all 8 go at once? A volt meter is a good tool to have. I'd go get a cheapo from Wally World for about $15. Test your GPR. If it's bad, you'll have to get a new one even with new glow plugs. Then change your gp's when you go to Diehard's in a couple weeks .
If it's good, you have actually scientifically measured the actual component instead of the whole electrical system. Just my .02, fwiw. Also, test your GPR on a cold start, not with a warm engine . Your GPR will not work with warm engine oil
My earlier post said i tested on a cold start.
Please read the post before you respond.... You guys are just repeating what has been said....
That's like saying it's better to replace a couple injectors instead of one.... Why? So one can go bad on you after you replaced another? That's poor decision making. Replace them all at one time.....

After reading this thread for the 4th time, I'm still not seeing where you actually took a volt meter and tested the GPR. I don't recommend against changing your glow plugs. I just advised you to test, in a more definitive trusted way, to physically check with a volt meter, your GPR. Isn't the torque app testing voltage drop on your whole OBD system? If your GPR is bad, you can change your Glow plugs as often as you want and they still won't work. What I would do is this; check your GPR manually with a volt meter. If it's bad change it out right away, and then, on Nov 16, change your GPs with diehardstroker. But again, that's just my $.02.Good luck.
I don't even know how to do that or what you mean....
Sorry I didn't realize you were one of the guys with the most info about this.
I was in the same position as you. I just figured I had bad glow plugs until I asked on this forum and they said start with the GPR.
As far as the screwdriver, there are two big posts on the GPR. If you put a screwdriver between them (like bridging them), it will turn the relay on. If it's working, the screwdriver may start to smoke a little. I did this for about 10 seconds.
Also how are you testing this whole process? Are you physically opening the hood and testing the GPR, or using an OBDII reader?

I haven't opened the hood yet. I'm using the voltages I get off my scanner.
I wasn't totally understanding on where or what to do under the hood so I just used the scanner
I'll see if I can find one of Tuglys under the hood pics of component locations. I'm not very technologically saavy. Thus my doubts of reading computer readouts. I like the little voltmeter that I hold in my hand...
