1979 FORD PLASTIC POWER STEERING PUMP HOUSING ?Need some.

Hey, Does anyone know where I can get a new reasonably priced plastic housings?? Everything I found are $35.00 to $50.00 bucks .When a truck comes in we put a good used one on.(costs about $30.00 pump, pulley, tank, brackets)outright. Now I have at least 6 or so good pumps that need housings, because of a broke return line end.(one down fall of these pumps.)

All I find at salvage yards around here for cores have this same problem.

I have a few 1978-79 pickups I still use.So I figured if anybody would know where to find them it would be you guys!!!

Also if anybody makes a steel replacement please pass it on.

If there is somewear on this site about this info.I couldn't find it.if you know pass it on.
Don't beat me up to bad this is my first question

Pretty sure I have several plastic housings. I'll check and see if I saved them.

A pricey alternative is to change it over to a Saginaw pump. You will need a custom pressure hose and bracket. Think they sell the brackets at WILD HORSES 4X4 Off-Road Bronco Parts and Accessories. Was a great fix for me.

1979 Ford P/S Pump with Plastic Reservoir

1965/77 FoMoCo P/S pumps have a steel reservoir (except 1975/77 Econolines).

Plastic reservoir P/S pump introduced in 1978 for all FoMoCo Passenger Cars, F100/350's and Bronco's (1975 and later Econolines used the Saginaw P/S pump).

Reservoir could be purchased by itself, it's still available from Ford and is the SAME for all '78/79's / 1980/95 F100/350 & Bronco / Myriad other 1980/2006 FoMoCo vehicles.

E5DZ-3A697-A (replaced E1AZ-3D697-A & D8AZ-3D697-A) .. P/S Pump Plastic Reservoir.

MSRP: $35.00 // FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor tousleyfordparts.com price: $23.10 / Tousley Ford ~ White Bear Lake MN

Type E5DZ3A697A into Tousley's website to see 909 different applications for the little charmer, beginning with 2006 Ranger ending with 1985 T-Bird.

FoMoCo dealer websites usually do not list any parts applications prior to 1985, so here's the E5DZ-3D697-A applications from the 1980/89 car parts catalog to fill in the gaps:

Yep, my 1977 F-150 has a steel housing / resevior PS pump and the steering box for a '77 is same through 79 on the F-150 4X4 so don't know for sure but I suspect that a '77 pump will work on the '79?

Thanks Grinnergetter for checking to see if you had any. Also thanks to Numberdummy for all that great info. very interesting,we will be using that.
Thanks for everybodies input it all will help.

Personally on my 1979 driver pickup I use a 1976 old school ford steel resivoir tank power steering pump.Used on older ford pickups and cars.Just change the power steering hose to the old style and good to go.

Thanks again Everybody !!!FORD POWER RULES!!!

Plastic reservoir pump is a different shape than steel reservoir pump, so the mounting brackets are different.

P/S pressure hose threads onto steel reservoir pump.

P/S pressure hose used with plastic reservoir pump has a straight tube with an o-ring on the pump end. Connects to the pump w/a qwik connect fitting.

I've put the 77 PS reservoir on a couple 79s and it does require the 77 mounts.

I know for a fact I have a least one or two. I always try to buy the new pumps with the reservoir attached and then steal the old ones off if I can get the return line off.
