Can a 78-79 power steering pump with the plastic reservoir housing bolt up to the power steering brackets on a 77 and earlier motor originally equiped with the older style metal reservoir housing fairly easily.
I know the high pressure hose ends are different at the pump, but that is not a big problem to solve. Big question is will the later pump fit on the earlier pump's bracket with out interference with the larger fluid filler neck.
I'm not sure about bracket interchangability.... but here's the scoop - I got a pump off of a 79 when I converted my 77, and it has a plastic housing, but it does NOT have a large filler.... I don't know if that helps you at all....

I know I've seen this done before. I was under the impression that it was a straight forward swap that, like you mentioned, should only require hose changes. I just don't remember where I saw it.
Anyways, here's a bump. I too am curious about the bottom line here.
Yep, gotta use a puller and remove/reinstall the pulley to bolt the pump to the bracket. I am running a yellow reservoir ps pump from an 89 mustang, using early 70's 460 brackets. Works good, but have a saginaw pump that well be next-quieter and should have more oomf.
