I have a few codes that are showing up and the only dash warning light that's on is the ABS light. It is on constantly.

The only oddity I've experienced is that I have lost my speedometer function on a couple of different occasions. The speedometer would be working again the next time I drove my truck both times.
Also, there were a couple of times where my OD light would begin blinking no-stop until I turned the truck off. Also was resolved the next time I drove my truck.
I appreciate anyone who can lend a hand in interpreting what may be going on here.
First thoughts are VSS or wiring, as that will affect the ABS light, speedo, and O/D code issues. For the rest of the codes, I usually write them off, sometimes flaky stuff just shows up, no matter what diagnostic tool you are using.
X2 what Al said. Try cleaning the senser and plug and reasemble with dialectric grease. If that doesn't do it, replace the vss. Get a Ford sensor though, they are cheap enough at around 25. 00 give or take. This is yet another one of the spares in my growing inventory I keep in the truck, along with the 2(new) in the box, original black IH cps.
This is when I wish I had access to my Powertrain Control and Emission Diagnostics (PC/ED) manual at all times. If I had something like that at my side, I could flip to the page for that code, and read the detailed step-by-step procedure for testing the systems associated with the codes. I always carry it in the truck, but I don't always have the ability to get at it.
OK, so today I replaced the VSS. When I unplugged the old sensor and turned the plug upside down, there was a lot of diff fluid draining out of the connector wiring. The inside of the sensor was completely free of diff. fluid unlike what we often see on the inside of the ICP sensor which leaks oil into the wiring harness at times.
The codes for left and right speed wheel input signal missing are still present, but I wasn't expecting those to go away after replacing the VSS.
I have no idea how the oil got there. Now the P05000 code is gone, but the C1229 Speed Wheel Sensor Rear Center Coherency Fault is still present. Would the oil in the wiring be the cause of the remaining code? How in the world did the oil make it's way into the wiring?
When I have multiple codes on one system I write them down. Clear them and see what comes back. If only one comes back I go after that one. But if they all come back I start with all the connectors looking for a bad or loose pin. Also find the system ground and check it. And oil is a harness causes resistance. Speed sensors use twisted pairs of wire. Oil also causes the harness seals to swell and push the connectors apart if the clip was only half a**ed snapped. I dont know if Ford sells the seals but International does.

C1229 will occur when the front and rear speed sensors are reporting different speeds. First question that comes to mind is do you have 4WABS?
Easiest way to verify the condition is hook up AE to the truck and enter the ABS Module Section. Pull up the Left Front, Right Front and Rear Speed Sensors. They usually will read 0-5 MPH when sitting still, especially if a speed correction has ever been accomplished. Drive the truck and watch the sensors, you will see about a 1-2 MPH difference from time to time, but not usually any more.

I was talking to a former Ford service tech today who has opened his own Powerstroke repair shop where that's all he works on. I mentioned to him that I received the C1229 Wheel Sensor Rear Center Coherency Fault after replacing my VSS and he said that this is caused by a radio frequency put out by the OEM alternator when they get some age on them. He said a new alternator will make this code go away. Sounds strange, but stranger things have proved to be true.
I thought I would share that information with all of you here.

Then maybe you should back away from the bottle a little sooner.
Just kidding. I got a really good deal on the manual on CD. It's the entire manual. I keep it inside my netbook case. The hard copy stays in the truck behind the seat.
I recently took advantage of DropBox for free, and put all my Ford documents in my DropBox folder. Now I can access them from anywhere, even on my phone.
