Why do you drive a super duty?

Yeah his truck is the subject of a lot of **** talking when ever he takes off in it, between how much it cost, It was 48k. He put down 12 financed 36 for 60 months. Then theres all the crap he's done to it since he bought. big wheels and tires plus a 2 inch lift. word round the campfire is that was 5k or more. Then he got a giant brush guard for the front end. He's getting it painted matte black over spring break and changing it to a 4 inch lift. I don't think i've ever seen it dirty which is hard with a black truck. we refer to it as his ***** most of the time.

On the other hand, if you have 3.73 with 10K on the back going up steep hills, your transmission may be hunting a lot. These new transmissions, though, do a damn good job of keeping stuff in check. Tow/haul on the that new transmission is killer.

I bought my Super Duty to tow a fifth wheel RV that had not yet been purchased. (I didn't want to put the cart before the horse so to speak...)
I purchased a Chevrolet new in the early 90's and it didn't hold up too well and it seemed like it was overloaded half the time so I knew I needed a real truck with a solid front axle and 4x4. We had Super Duties at work as well as Dodge Ram 2500/3500 trucks. The Dodge trucks fell apart in 2 or 3 years while the Ford trucks were doing just fine. So, I decided on a Ford truck and I wanted a diesel to save on fuel costs. At the time I purchased my truck, diesel was $1.23/gallon and the truck averages about 16 mpg so that was quite alright for me. At the time, it was the most expensive vehicle purchase that I had ever made....which was hard to swallow since I pay cash for my vehicles.
To this day I've never regretted making the purchase....not even once. I told myself way back when that I'd drive that truck until it fell apart or becomes unreliable. So far it's still going strong and doesn't show any signs of slowing down yet. Without a doubt, my Super Duty has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. Even my wife has been so impressed with my truck that she found one for herself. We've only owned her truck for a few year now but it's been equally reliable so far. These things are built really really well. If you live in an area that is exempt from rust issues then I think these things might be able to go for decades without too many issues.

That is the exact truck I have but mine is a 2012. I wanted the taller gears because the 6.2 is a little weak down low but the 3.73s are fine. It definitely gets better mileage than my V10 did. I would expect 13-14 (thats city miles for me - better on the freeway). Unless you hammer on it of course.
For the premium you pay for the Diesel motor, you could buy a heck of a lot of gas. I would argue that the 5.4 in a super duty gets about the same, if not worse, than the 6.2. I had the 3V 5.4 in my 05 f150 and it got pretty poor MPG.
It depends if you even need a truck? A 4 cylinder ranger would be a nice fuel efficient truck. dont buy a 3/4 ton truck for it's fuel saving properties

I agree no matter how much better the mileage in the 6.7 would be, the higher cost of diesel fuel and maintenance any savings and even if it were good enough to off set that it'd still be almost impossible to offset the initial expense of the diesel. I wasn't really looking to save gas I had just naively been under the impression that the mileage would be better. Too many ads with mike rowe talking about how good the mpg is in the new ford motors
My V10 excursion saw 10 constantly. My 6.2 sees about 14-15. I would say that is something to brag about.

It all depends on what you use it for. If you have 4.30s and you are out on the freeway trying to go 100 MPH you will be revving pretty high and burning fuel.

What kind of driving are you doing? city/highway/mix? what kind of terrain? 14-15 average mpg would be just fine in my book

Depending on the driving you are doing, you could always look into a gear vendors O/D. The are expensive, but can really help out in the towing/MPG world.
Gear Vendors under/overdrive transmissions the most awarded auxiliary transmissions.

To work and back probably 45 mph. 1 huge hill up and 1 huge hill down. I *****foot it though. Not too much stopping and starting. I am really happy with the 6.2. There not a bunch of B.S. on it. Its a very simple motor (by todays standards).

^ what they all said. The new 6.2 is a really nice motor, plenty of power and sounds pretty good stock too (especially with an exhaust)
I love my diesel, but if i was to get a new truck (not happening) itd probably be the 6.2 with 4.30s. Just dont want to get into the new diesel with all the emissions stuff and not being able to work on it
