AE Question & the Brotherhood

I would first I would like to give a special thanks to robbraiel /Rob for going out of his way and taking the time to come over to my house and running AE on my truck. We also went and did lunch at Quaker Steak & Lube and the biggest treat for me was he let me drive his truck which is one sweet running truck. It was like a virgin compared to driving Blackie (my truck)
So thank you Rob and I would send reps but was told to pass them around.

Now we ran alot of different tests and the only codes we found were due to my 470 ohm mods which aren't working for ebpv and wastegate controller. I think it because I used 470 ohm 1/2 watt instead of the 1watt or bad connection in plug. Either way no big deal.

Now to get to the point when we ran the AE to check glow plugs it said all was good. But what does AE actually check for when testing glow plug system. Is it just checking to make sure the pcm is sending a signal to the GPR ? Or
is it actually checking the ohms of the gp's ?

When running the live data my ICP 480 at idle at 10%dc and I forgot what it was at WOT so hopefully Rob will weigh in with what that was. We were at WOT at 88mph so I wasn't looking and mind you I am running stock tunes.

Last question when we were checking the MAP psi it was 14psi at idle and if I recall maybe 30psi at WOT What does the MAP psi translate into as far as boost or what should the psi be? Because if I have 14psi at idle that can not be the correct value to be the boost. So any help in these matters would be greatly apperciated.

Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) is baro plus boost, so at idle it is pretty much reading baro since boost is less than zero. If you want to see a boost value then select Manifold Gauge Pressure.

The glow plug diagnostics are only for the GPCM vehicles, or at least I have not found a way to use AE to test the standard system...

Your map is correct. It is reading absolute pressure, not guage pressure. The standard absolute pressure near sealevel is about 14.7 psia. That means you were seeing about 15 LBS boost at WOT. Sounds correct to me.

It was my pleasure to help you out Ed. Like I said before I was still learning how to use AE so it was good to run it on your truck while you drove and I watched the computer (much safer).

I just looked at the pics of the screen again and at WOT your ICP was between 2385 & 2420 and duty % was between 30 & 33. I would post the pics but they real blurry plus im on my phone and cant post.

Ed, pm me your email address and I'll send the pics to you.

I'm not sure if the later versions of the AE allow you to run a vald glow plug system test, but I have run it a 6.0 truck. The test raises the rpm to allow the charging system to maintain a certain voltage while the glow plugs are energized and it looks for a certain amount of voltage drop. I don't know what the values are, but this is the way I understand it works.
