I found a copy of the 1999 7.3l Powerstroke Diesel Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis manual on Ebay for a triple-sawbuck and bought it. Man, that is one complete diagnosis manual and will be loaded into the truck along with my AE/laptop for any roadtrips. If you haven't seen this manual, you owe it to yourself. A hatip to Tugly for the recommendation.
Al, from what I see, this book is the troubleshooting addendum to the workshop (repair) manuals (BTW, it is a Ford publication). With AE and this book, you can really systematically troubleshoot problems efficiently. This manual really digs into the troubleshooting of the control systems (sensors) as they affect engine performance.

1999....that is one I'd like to have. I have 2000 and 2003 (which are a little bit different) and then I have one for 2006 6.0 and 2007 4.5 (V6). Those books are great.
How much different or more information is in these versus the Workshop manuals?
Workshop manuals tell you how to take it apart and put it back together. The PC/ED manual tells you how to diagnose it and check to see if it's working properly.
Actually I got to looking through most of my pdf's and such, and found I do have most if not all of them as well as the workshop manual. Many of the PC/ED are for OBS(up to 98), but can easily be applied through logic and knowledge and with applicable pinouts. Also my snap-on scanners also have diagnostic troubleshooters as well, which I haven't used much either.
Nevertheless, it does seem like good information for many to have.
