Believe it or not these trucks are still in demand. I know your pissed, I would be too. Clear your head then try the simple things talked about here. When these babies run right and they do most of the time, they are an awesome truck. Don't 'give' it away!!
I dont know what you use your trucks for. But after paying 3,000 for a truck with an engine that taken care of properly will get you close if not over 500K before anything close to a rebuild is not bad. Now throwing 2500-3000 on a trans buld is not that bad. Any decent shop will be able to upgrade to Kevlar Cluthces, steel planetary gears, a larger valve body and shift kit for that price. I had the same thing done to mine and the darn thing tows like its brand new.
By the way pos only has 321000 and drives great.if you look around pricing is better than you think.I can get one here done for half the prices discussed and have a great truck again.you owned an 05? Yea...that was a bad idea. This 97...NOT a bad idea!
I am in the construction business, so I seldom tow anything. The man whom I boghth this truck said it had a shift kit in it. Whatever that is. I would like to adjust the linkage, or possibly repair the shifter. So at least the gears will align. And I will add transmission fluidAs far as the repairs though, can someone assist me with making the small repairs mentioned? I'm a carpenter, not a mechanic.
Well I checked the transfer fluid and the screws, and both were fine. Put the truck into reverse and it wouldn't engage intuitive increased the rpm speed. Then it went into gear. Also when driving in town, the truck seems like it drops out of drive when I let off the accelerator. Some type of kickdown into a lower gear. And the rpm speed remains at like 1500 rpm until I accelerate again. I wonder if a fluid and filter change might help it. The fluid looks kinda brown on the rag.
A change might be in order. I have heard though that sometimes changing the fluid and filter will shake a lot of grud loose and cause a complete trans failure. Just though I would throw that out there but if it was mine, I would change it.

I've also heard a lot of things that are not true. This is not true, either.
