I didn't mean all Fords. I usually buy my trucks new, and have had good luck with the Ford Diesel trucks. But this truck, which I bought with 213,000 miles on it is a POS. But hey it is a 1997, so what should I expect. I just don't have the money now to rebuild it. So before it quits, I will try and trade it off. And make payments on a new one.
I figured something like that. Its an extended cab 2 wd, with the XLT package. The body seems pretty strait, except for the rear of the bed on the passenger side. Has some damage from a blowout. The interior is ok, as it was a farm truck before I got it. I wonder what a 97 Ext Cab with a bad trans would be worth on a trade in.
Without knowing whether the fluid was changed regularly, is it safe to change it? Rumor has it, if you change one that hadnt been serviced properly, you will kill it.
I talked to a shop yesterday. Quoted me 1895 for a rebuild on the transfer and converter. Not worth it on a 97
I don't see how it is not....200000 miles...yep that's half at worst way to being worn out...my 96 with 321000 runs and drives great.I plan a new engine at 400000 IF I have it ready...if its not done..then we will see how far it goes before it gets swapped...my truck will live FOREVER! Or some non driver takes it from me.

An old urban legend that just won't die because people that don't know anything about the subject keep quoting it.

I'm willing to bet the original engine is going to die long before 4000000 (4 million) miles.
