I plan to take it tomorrow to the dealership, and see about trading it. I bought the truck about a week ago, for $4500. Without knowing about the transmission issues. So I am reluctant to just give it away.

I would guess at the least , its worth 1895 less than you paid for it . More if you get a quality trans ...A good one can cost as much as you paid for the truck ..Maybe you can lie your way through a trade in ...

Damn thing goes forward fine. Just sometimes is hard to get into reverse. You have to rev up the motor
